I have an O2 UK P900... I have successfully upgraded my firmware. I don't see what your problem is?

What is your CDA number - and what revision of organiser software do you have. We've got CDA of 162004/7 and are stuck on R3A - where the unbranded P900s are on R5 (maybe R6?). Maybe you're lucky and have an unbranded phone (CDA 162003/1)?

Appologies if this has been asked and answered before... but,

What is this "unbranding" you all refer to? What is the difference between a branded and an unbranded P900?

I just checked and my P900 (on O2) versions are:

Organiser: R3A06
CDA: 162004/7

When going to SE update website, it says I have the latest versions. But you mention newer versions, being unavailable to us, because we're on O2? If I understand correctly?

I couldn't even find what the "latest latest" version of the organiser is on the SE website. What's supposed to be different to the version we're "stuck" with?

Thanks.

i think he is refering to the unbrander.dll, which doesnt work anymore, the only way to get your phones successfully updated is by going to service centre or using fighter/twister or other such flashing software. my phone was orange branded i got so fed up that i bought fighter and flashed my phone to latest firmware.

@Vladman
Some phones are branded like the vodafone and orange ones with the network name on the hardware and network specific menus in the software these are usually contract phones Pay as you go phones and usually 02 phones are unbranded meaning no brand specific changes on the phone. The problem theya re talking about is that, though 02 phones are unbranded you are unable to update the firmware(software for the phone) online through the SE website becuase the website will tell you that you have the latest firmware eventhough you don't have it. The only option is to take the phone to a service centre and get it updated . This is free if you are still under warranty. The latest version is mentioned in the first post of this thread. usually the firmware updates are to remove bugs so its good to do a firmware update. having said that I didn't do it and I am on the same firmware for the last 8 months, never did for my p800 either , but I luckily I never noticed any bugs in my phone. hope this answers your questions

Hmmm I'm also on 162003/5 and I can't use the update service.

I might try it again when I get home tonight though.

anish, thanks very much. I was confused because I thought Orange and Vodafone phones were branded (with the logo printed on the actual phone), just like you explained, but I thought O2 phones were unbranded. However, it appears they still are customised in some way by O2, even though they don't print their logo on the screen. The startup and shutdown screens come to mind. So basically, O2 phones are branded too.

My phone is working well too, but as with everything, I like to have the latest firmware, if possible. Not sure it's worth the hassle with my P900 for the moment really though. Does SE website post the list of updates with each new firmware they release? Don't know if it's worth upgrading... Sometimes the very latest releases can be unstable...

Cheers.
