Its a risky business, people use kazaa etc everyday not really realising how many laws they are breaking and how serious it is, obviously this is a massive problem and the chances of u bein caught for d/l is extremly small, but by running a site u are making your self far more open to bein noticed, its a nice idear and ur not the first to say this but i would seriously consider the risks u are taking before commiting yourself to this.

You obviously disregard the fact that it is illegal... No need to 'reconsider' This message was posted from a T610

What do you mean reconsider?
I said im going to re-think my site. Which means I aint going to be putting stuff on that’s illegal.
The subject was about a site I want to do. Not a debate on downloading media from the Internet.

There are some ways you can get around it.

You are by law to make backup copies of your own(OWN!) ******(CD'sDVD's or what ever) however if you sell these or give them away then that is wrong!(illegal!).

So you can do this.

Have a site full with MP3's of your choice, all these MP3's you own the orginal copies for! and they are hosted on a site for you and you only! if people find out the site and download it then its not realy(pushing the truth here a little) illegal!

But you would have to have a page saying this is for personal use only and it is only aloud to be download by yourself. bla bla bla! Its like the old days when you had a com 64 with heaps of games, you take it to cash converters! and you have illegal copies. Cash converters will buy those illegal games off you, but they will only buy the Disc's not whats on them!

anyway! buy a domain not in you name, pay cash for it! pay cash for hosting and give invalid names! use a email at yahoo or hotmail! for those people to contact you at. Never check on home computer! because they can trace you IP address. and then bob is your uncle! No way to catch you!

Simpsons Copywrite laws:

Quote:FOX will process notices of alleged infringement which it receives and will take appropriate action as required by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) and other applicable intellectual property laws. The DMCA requires that notifications of claimed copyright infringement should be sent to the Designated Agent.

Remember the olden days you use to tape things onto VHS and then watch them over again! Giving that tape to a friend is illegal! But everyone did it!

Again giving a tape to a friend is much smaller a case as compared to sharing it on internet.
Remember, law enforcers never look at individuals.... they always look at modes of bulk spreading and websites, shops etc most likely get trapped easily.
Even if you pay someone to host it, there will be a fine print in their policy disallowing this... and as soon as the site goes public, someone reports it and thats the end of you your contract with hosting company. You wont be even able to ask for your hosting fees back as you are on the wrong side.

Think before you leap

Thanks for that m8.
Im going to stay away from it for now. if I start getting loads of peeps coming to the site if and when it goes up i might think about doing it legally. If this world was pardise what i would really like to do is encode epsodes of the simpsons for example and stick on them on my web site and charge people a £1 for the download.

But from what everybodys been telling me... and the not so nice lectures im getting of peeps, Im going to have problems! its an idea!
I defo have the web space for it though.
