to get your firmware you have to take your phone to a SE service center. email them to find you nearest center. however, many people are complaining that the latest firmware puts more bugs on than solves them so im hanging on until they solve the short battery problem (if they ever do

)
it should be free aslong as it is under waranty.

This is just one of the worst things that I hate most when buying electronic gadgets

Quality control is being compromised here with the SE K700/i fone model - very evidently! With the insurmountable querries we are seeing/reading here in the discussion forum. I guess this is SE's worst fone to be released out in the market, the SE K700/i fone model - full of bugs ! I just hope that they'll release an upgrade software to get rid of all of these unwanted things, for FREE - ASAP!

Probably they will release a new fw, there wasnt a recall. But is the k7 really so bad or its just a new faulty piece next to the thousands of good working fones?

Well I got my K700 from O2 in the UK nearly 3 weeks ago now, and I have had not one single problem. I think most of the problems posted are 1 offs.
Either that, or I am just very lucky.

I agree, not all the K700's are duffers, mine has been great, short of the battery life (which i don't mind) and the occasional slow responce, very occasional and it doesn't stop the phone from working.

Yeah well i am just about to buy the K700 on saturday, 7/8/2004. Well lets say 7th of August 2004, coz im an australian and i know that the americans say the day and month opposite to ozzies.
Anyway, i think that this one off problem is a big turn off to buy a phone. Sure it may be a one in a hundred chance but for a company like SE i think they should do a bit better.
Should i get the phone? I have a few questions:
1. Does it really lag?
2. Is the battery life like really short (12hrs i heard)?
3. Is the camera any good?
4. Is it worth upgrading from Nokia 6610?
Could you only answer this if ur phone is not that one off problem one as well.

@Kyniver, here's my answers:
1. Lag. Either it's another hit and miss thing or some people are EXTREMELY observant. I cannot detect lag with my phone, and it seems far more responsive than the majority of phones I have used.
2. Battery. After the initial charge of my phone when I used it a lot, my phone lasted about a day and a half. Since then I get 3-4 days on each charge with 'average' use (I make a few calls, send lots of SMS and take a few pics and videos).
3. Camera. I think the camera is excellent in good light conditions. It can be quite poor in low light, even with the light on. Dark pictures contain quite a lot of detail, but suffer from a lot of graining/noise.
4. 6610. Never used one, but I am guessing the K700 is worth upgrading to.

The problem is solved! It was my sim-card that my phone didnt like... Now that ive got to try the phone, i must say that i love it! Ive discovered some bugs, but they dont bother me much and i assume that most of them will disappear in the next firmware version...
