Its a bit rude to tell somone to rtfm about somthing when he didnt actually ask you for your opinion on that in the first place.
And noone even mentioned complaining about lack of support for other file types.

Your statement above would make more sense and carry more credibility if the K700i was an MP3. player which it is not. It is a telephone that happens to play .MP3's. I can tell the difference. Your reasonable assumption is baseless for the reason I mentioned above. Second, the phone put the file in the incorrect place because it is in an unrecognized format. If your reasonable assumption held water, why didn't place the file in one of the media folders?

He made a post here so he asked for everyone's opinion. This is the basis of an open forum.

Not yet, but I am sure that anyone that can put together a reasonalbe assumption will be one of the first to complain that SE let them down.

I've just tried it and it doesn't work. As with any file type that I have tried to send to the phone so far which is not notively supported, it got put into the "other" folder and the only options then are to send it out of the phone again (IR, BT etc) or move it to another folder, rename it or delete it.
If I try to move it to another folder then only the "other" folder or the ability to create a new folder is offered, meaning I cannot transfer it to the "sounds" folder
so this is a total no go unless a java application is written that works on the K700 and can access the "other" folder... a possibility but there is nothing I have heard of yet that does that

It is technically possible to do but the key to remember is that .wma files are an extention to Windows Media Player. They are not as good sound quality as MP3's and also the fact that Microsoft will probably not give the license away for free and SE might not have wanted to purchase it. While converting from MP3 to .wma is possible, in the end it may prove to expensive and the sound quality is not as good.

I currently have all my CDs converted to WMA primarily to transfer to the 1gb SD card on my ipaq for listening to and I find that even at 64kbit the quality is excellent.
I did experiment quite a bit changing the bit rate until I got to a level where the number of songs I could fit vs quality was something I would be happy with and while I am fairly average in telling quality difference I did find that MP3 were better when compared to WMA at higher bit rates (e.g. 192kbit) but at this lower end I could not tell any difference or if anything, wma was slightly better
I've been using WMA since my first ipaq probably 4 years ago and its the main reason I havn't bother with ipod too
I'd be very happy to see some app thaty played wma on my K700 (or P series)

He asked where the file may have gone.
Correct it is not an mp3 player, but it is an mp3 playing device, such as ipaq's or cd-mp3 players, etc etc and a good proportion of those support wma.

I have seen documentation that .mp4 has an even better sound quality for a smaller footprint. I do have an iPod and must say that I do like the sound quality of .mp4 as opposed to .mp3 for the same file size. I have a pair of Etymotic earbuds that allow you to hear every minute detail witin the music which would require a better codec for compressing.

True. I had an iPaq that would play various media files, but the key here is that the manual stated this as such. The key word being manual. The iPod now supports .wma files. You know how I found this out? It was not trial and error, but was from reading documentation about it. So you argument of hoping for the best is based once again, not on fact but on a hope and a prayer. It has no real merit. You are simply making an uneducated guess and nothing more.
