If you've changed the facia recently, perhaps check you've put all the screws in tightly - but not so tight that it cracks tha facia, of course!
The other thing to try is cleaning the contacts of the sim reader with a toothbrush - I did this on a Nokia 3100 with the same problem and it worked a treat afterwards!

OK, tried another card and then it worked. My SIM card DIDNT work in another phone. Ordered a new card. *happy*
