Some reasons I left Cingular for T-Mobile:
* T-Mobile has 24hr customer service. (Cingular doesn't).
* T-Mobile CS answer after * Calls to Europe are 29 cents/min with T-Mobile but 99 cents/min with Cingular.
* T-Mobile has cheaper calling plans.
* T-Mobile doesn't give you a hard time with unlocking.
* T-Mobile doesn't give you a hard time when roaming abroad.
* T-Mobile has cheaper data plans.
* T-Mobile didn't merge with AT&T.
I'm sure there are more reasons...

One downside w/ T-Mobile... Their phones are tri-band so you can't roam 850mhz...

Yes, I have to say, the 850Mhz band works really good for Cingular/AT&T.

T-Mobile is like the Wal Mart of the wireless industry.

I work for Cingular (for the time being) so I really don't need T-Mo service at this time. I don't mind their phones though...

@amagab. That is what i was told by t-mobile. You can buy a phone from cingular for example and take it to t-m for activation. In a year or so. T-m has 3 good phones everything else...crap.

Okay, I thought you meant in your earlier post that you could activate T-Mobile service in a Cingular store and vice versa.
What you are talking about is just buying the phone from them, without getting a contract. That you can do already but at a much higher price.
Cheers!
