@aydahm - I suggest then that you try other IM midlets using the SAME gprs settings. You can download the ff java apps: TipicMe at www.tipic.com or Justyak at www.justyak.com. Try Yamigo also. (Too bad Agile Messenger for J2ME isn't out yet!) If these apps work, then cMessenger may indeed have an issue with either your network provider (site blocking) or your phone (though i doubt this -- other K700i owners have reported successful cMessenger usage).

I am very pleased with cMessenger because it was able to "penetrate" during the "peak hours," i.e., the time when there are so many users of the free gprs. Other web-based midlets, IM or not, would've timed out and disconnected, but cMessenger somehow held on. My 7250i's built-in wap browser was also timing out on all wap sites.

I've also tried cMessenger during non-peak hours (3-5 a.m., ). During those hours it connects really fast. Just a few seconds and you're ready to go.

@aydahm - gunggudotcom's right. Browse known wap sites first using your phone's built-in wap browser. This is the basic test. Then you'll know if your gprs settings work.

Another thing - have you asked your network provider whether they are blocking any wap/web sites?

it could very well be cmessenger that is the problem. I installed it AGES ago and have used it successfully for a while, but as of a few months back it stays in 'connecting' mode forever.... and I have once let it run for up to 2 hours without getting a connection. I've since tried justyak, im+, a few jabber apps and umsg, all of which DO indeed work on my phone. Cmessenger has never come back to life for me though

My internet on K700i works perfectly, I didn't mean to say that the internet on K700i is problematic. It may just be that it has something to do with Cmessenger; the TipicMe and UMSG also don't work, it says connecting and it never connects. May be there is an issue with my network provider. I called SE and they said that the network provider in Turkey doesn't support these applications. Otherwise, it works perfectly.

BTW, I found out another application that does work and that I can connect to my MSN account, it is e-messenger. From the phone, go to the site:
http://start.e-messenger.net/
and from there you log in to your MSN account. And it works!!!

do you guys know about a similar application for SE K700i that can connect through Yahoo?

I want applications that can use the APN wap, not internet. It's much, much cheaper here with APN wap.

It really seems that nobody actually need yahoo on their k700i. That link has not been working for ages now, my friend ...

Basically, as presented on the SE site, K700i has no IM features. Damn!

Lucky me. I can use the My Friends feature of my K700i to chat with my yahoo friends, and possibly with msn and icq users. Just like an IM

Are you sure you can do that? I mean I can also connect to the yamigo server, and if I have set up someone as a contact, it will show me its presence, but if they send me a message (and I do not send them one before) I will not receive it for 12 minutes. I am not sure if you can call this Instant.

Of course each time your phone talks to the server, it also brings down the messages you received, so you can have a small conversation, but only if you are talking more than your friend is.

Also, if you leave my friends, and say go browsing, and one of your friends contacts you, then you won't know for about 12 minutes that's what I was talking about.

All SE phones have this 12 minutes lag. It seems it cannot be changed. Motorala's lag is only 30 seconds! and Nokias have around 3 minutes (which is still accetable).

Yahoo Messenger wap sites (still working):
1) http://mm.yahoo.com/?Referer=other --> this is what i call the "main" YM wap site. Supports adding of Yahoo friends; supports some smileys (though black and white only).

2) http://uk.mm.yahoo.com/#i --> the UK version of Yahoo Messenger. A bit less user-friendly than YM WAP's main site.

About cMessenger: I don't believe that cMessenger's midlet or server are flawed because I use it to chat everyday; the sending and receiving of messages are almost as fast as on a pc, i.e., it takes only seconds, provided that you have decent gprs signal.

About K700i having no IM capability: I have to disagree. There's the built-in IMPS, and on top of that, you can install 3rd-party chat midlets like cMessenger. My "lowly"7250i, with "only" class 4 gprs, can do this, so why not a K700i.

About SE phones being "slow" in handling IM: Not true! I have chatted on YM's wap site using a P900, and it was lightning-fast!
