Yes, but apparently some phones with R2L continue the shutter sound even when in silent mode, that's why so many people complain.

I don't know about the firmware upgrade. Mine is still R2A but the shutter sound turns off when I put it to silent mode.

I have no problem with the sound except for the volume of it, its TOO LOUD, if SE would lowered it a bit I would be pleased.

I don't know if it's true, but a Japanese friend of mine said that there was a case in Japan where a school teacher was caught taking pictures with his phone cam of ladies wearing mini-skirts in a quite perverted angle, was sued and was charged a fine of a large amount of cash. If I recall correctly US$1M equivalent. If it's true, this sound may have been intentionally placed in an effort to discourage his disciples to do the same aside from annoying us.

I saw in another forum that you can solve the problem by taking the picture when you are making a call (for example, 1800---in US). I have not tried it out by myself since my firmware is currently R2E011.

Have you tried to turn the volume down (that worked on some R2A units).

For R2A unit, you just just put the phone into silent mode and take pictures without a sound.
