> Unbranded K700i sim card query

MikLSP - I have just had a look at the sim lock thing you mention (good call by the way! why didnt i think of that!) and all 5 padlocks are open. I have the following things on that page:
Network [open padlock] 5
Network subset [open padlock] 5
Service provider [opadlock] 5
Corporate [open] 5
ESL [open] 5
So this is with my inactive o2 sim in the k700i. When I look under Networks it shows lots of 02 and Orange networks with the 02 card in, and when i put the Vodafone sim in I get a list of Vod networks - but no signal strength at all.
So - do you think it really is unlocked but I have to some how figure how to get it working with the Vodafone sim? I know its only 10 days or so that I have left with the Vodafone sim - but it would be nice to get to know the phone with an active sim card. Hmmmm...

If it was locked it would not even do that, you'd turn it on & see a message such as "Incorrect SIM"
If u get beyond this then the phone is not locked, as confirmed by the SIM lock menu.
I don't know why the problem lls occuring but I'm trying to rule one out

MikLSP - yes, I get past the welcome animation - in fact I can do everything I want except get any sort of signal and therefore cant make calls, connect to gprs etc etc. I guess I'll be visiting Carphone Warehouse again tomorrow to see why it might not be working. I bet its some sort of setting that needs to be set or something - I just cant figure out what it is!

Hmmm - I have just made some cool mp3 ringtones for my new phone and before bed I decided id have one more try with the vodafone sim in the unlocked 02 k700i - and hey presto it now works! I havent done anything apart from go and check the service menu - then I did the self test thing. So maybe a quick test through everything has cleared the cobwebs and got it working! Who knows, but now I can really enjoy this funky little phone.... particularly Ring Ring Ring *hehehe*...

The fastest way to the simlock menu is to enter <**< from the main screen.. this is the access to the actual unlocking menu , if the phone asks for a code it is locked.. :( But no problem, since you now got it working .. Enjoy your new toy/phone !

...I just took segements from some songs I really like to use as ringtones for various people, and ive got an intro to a song i like as an alarm signal... im soooo glad I held our for an unbranded non-vodafone handset as this is exactly why I wanted it! LOL Ive managed to make a loop from this intro segment so if the alarm doesnt get swtiched off straight away it goes round and round pretty seamlessly. I am an Incognito fan (UK jazz funk) so unless you like their music you wont be interested in my mp3s!
