First of all, if you could see the charge line of a battery you will notice that the discharge rate is not linear. By the end of the battery (about 20%), it starts to fall abruptly in a short amount of time.
That's why your phone turns off automatically, to protect the applications and temporary data.
(this for rechargeable batteries)

While I srely ain't overly familiar with battery technology, What you say can clearly be true, yet I find that hard to believe in my case...

Day before yesterday, battery was on around 20% - make a call and it turns itself off...

Today, the battery still has some life in it... thats almost 2 more days - not only of standby but of using gprs and the mp3 player - thus I think the problem lies directly with these Orange firmware upgrades - ever since the updates the battery indicator has great pleasure in teasing and misleading me on the actual amount left... the battery low beep and red light from 50% onwards is comical, but on removing the battery for a few seconds and replacing it all is back to normal, for a few hours... fact is when the reading is 50% or more, the beep should not occur and the red light should not flash... thus there is surely some software/firmware based problem...

Yes, probably there is. Although the fact that your battery it's not new it's also important.
Read the link posted by sapporobaby about completely draining the battery to reset the meter.
Also remember, the older the battery, the more slow is to give "instant" energy to the phone.
This means that although you may not have energy to sustain a call for a long time, if you engage in a low power task, it will recover the power after a few seconds (because it's slow) and use the phone for a long period of time.

I've had my p900 for about 8 months now and only recently has the battery started to die "very quickly" too.

Anyone know of where to get another battery at a good price?

BTW, did anyone else try the suggestion a previous poster wrote about doing a complete 'reboot' of the phone to improve the battery life again? Did it really work?

Lau...

Well, the phone has been completely discharged numerous times, and then recharged for varying amounts of time, upto a day on some occasions, in an attempt to force some life back into the thing...

I would ideally blame the battery, but it apears as though this is not the case since it has seemed to occur quite dramatically - just about as soon as i updated the phone for the 2nd time really... and with each update, i get varying anomalies, such as the low battery warning on 50%+, yet the phone conintuing for a few days...

The battery has deteriorated somewhat, when I had the phone it would use no more than 10% a day (thats a continual 24 hours)... now after a charge it uses around 12-15% when not used frequently that is...

So, the battery as such ain't that bad, just that the readout after 50% is very misleading...

Cheers, for the information though...

As to the poster who requested a battery replacement... scroll up to a previous post of mine where I linked to Mobilefun... they sell the BST-15 (the higher capacity P900 battery, as opposed to the lower capacity P800 battery) for £40 or so the last time i checked...

Hmmm would a firmware update help? I have not flashed my P900 since i bought it last year. I have just started flashing it now (have tried but i have never been able to do this successfully so wish me lucky this time round!!! )

Am still considering the Z1010 but getting hold of one to play with is a bummer, noone has them in stock yet ! I've also got my eyes on the P910!!! Temptation Temptation!!!! At least i am never gonna touch Cough cough Nokia again. they have lost the plot big time and the splurge in new mobiles onto the market in a frantic attempt to catch up is pathetic. SE Rules!!!

Just to let everyone know that i have successfully flashed my phone to the latest software via the SE support site. I will let you all know if this makes a difference to my battery. By the way i don't see any major differences in the old firmware/software to the very latest update, ho hum....
