@mers great post! So he should give a try for the batt in another fone to check it? My batt drains linear, sometimes after longer use if i dont use the fone it gets 1 line in the indicator back, even it dropped aslong i made a call or surfed.

Well mers, thats a different perspective and one that makes perfect sense to me. Great post. Taught me a lot about how this things work too. Thanks. I`ll try and swap batteries with someone for a day or two and see how it goes. I`ll guess if it solves the problem that won`t be reason enough to buy a new battery or enter a long battle with my operator to get my phone changed by a new one. I`ll get used to it and since the warning its kind of uselless - accordingly to what you have been saying, as soon as it gives you notice you will have just a couple minutes, at best, to plug the phone - and my battery reading is accurate and linear, I`ll always be able to calculate for how much time the battery will last. Thanks to everyone who posted.

@bobafett: Err, the output voltage doesn't decrease linearly. It stays pretty much the same until the end of the charge, and the phone converts the ADC voltage readings into a linear scale to show you the meter. For example, on a scale from 0 to 10 with 10 being highest voltage and 0 being low voltage, the output voltage readings of a great battery will be like
9.9 9.9 9.9 9.9 9.9 9.8 9.8 9.8 ... 9.5 9.1 8.1 6.0 2.0 0
The phone then converts these readings (taking logs, etc) such that the meter will show half full somewhere halfway along the sequence. If this isn't done correctly, the battery meter will behave incorrectly ... hint hint, what are the odds that's what happened with R2A?
