Its because they have that 300 text per month tarriff (which im on) and as you said, they cant cope with the amount of sms being sent.

That's probably it but if they offer a service they should be able to provide it!
The idea of the free SMS is to attract people to O2 so they should be prepared for large demand!

i know they should really have put a little more thought and resources before they did it i have given up on them now and switched to orange havent had a problem yet i still get 500 free texts and they all work ha ha plus the gprs is almost three times faster i saw the advert on the telly o2 boastng about call conection or network reception yeah right

well how much you spending a month i went to orange because i like the free texts 30 quid a month 500 free texts 200 minutes to any network the same as o2 online

O2 are indeed aware of the problem regarding the Sony Ericsson K700i. It is mainly to do with the software, there is new software available which should solve this problem, i encourage you to call sony ericsson's customer service to find the nearest service point closest to you.
Otherwise as another poster said, to push the message queue along just go to the network settings, set it to manual then go through all the other networks, then go back to o2, re-register and restart your phone. the messages should start coming through.
If that method doesn't work, then ring o2 customer service and request them to clear your message back log.

glad its not just me with problems. seems it is worst when the phone recieving the message is out of range or off at the time. when the phone is back in range/switched on, it looks like the sms/mms is not sent again immediatley but rather o2 has set intervals to try to resend. i guess this problem is further confounded if you are in a weak signal area coming in and out of reception.
still, sometimes mms or sms never get through. i contacted o2 and they could see messages on their system but couldnt give a reason why they were not sent.
i have more problems with mms than sms.
