Its no so much as you cant turn it off. I am more annoyed that my S700 makes such a stupid sound. I hve tried all 3 sounds and they are all very annoying and very loud.

I have come to terms with the fact that the shutter is gonna make dirty sound when i use it, ppl need 2 chill, it aint a BIG deal!
if it wasnt a big deal, do you think people would be going on about it all the time? no.
as for people making the excuse its for perverts, I happen to want to take pictures of ANYTHING without having half the room start staring at me, I may also want to take a picture of someone secretly without them knowing then surprise them with it later, and no not perverty pics, maybe a funny pic of them sleeping or something.
So no I dont buy the excuse it is to stop perverts, thats just crap. If you are going to take that approach then you need to attach a big siren to every camera and camera phone in the world that goes off every time a pic is taken.
fact is, I dont want it playing stupid sounds whenever I take a picture, it irritates me as much as the people around me.

Well, I just like mine to be there everytime, as it gives a true camera sound while taking pics, honestly, I like it even louder at say, 20 decibel (DB) ?

I have to agree with the poster saying get over it.
Im also getting fed up with people whining and moaning and yelling at mobilmanufactures because of this ridiculous litle thing.
Several places in the world either have laws allready or laws coming, that camerasound must be on at all times. Other places theres alot of pressure from lobbyist organisations, human rights foundations etc. to implement this. In the future this will be everywhere wihtout doubt.
Theres no reason to blame the mobile manufactureres as it is not their descission alone. The mobile manufacturers that do implement this are only living up to their moral obligations. Thumbs up for that.
Unlike normal cameras, cameraphones are "hidden" cameras because they have a different primary function, namely making calls - thus enabling taken "hidden" pictures while pretending to use the primary function of the phone.
Therefore there are good reasons for shuttersound on cameraphones - like preventing perverts from taking hidden pictures of our kids in places where they shouldent, or just people taking hidden pictures of others without their consent, or trying to prevent industrial espionage using cameraphones, teenagers using cameraphones to mob other teenagers in school etc. etc.
In order to protect our kids and our privacy as individuals - I personally find the camera sound a very small price to pay.
I dont want to find pictures of my kid from the beach or the dressingroom of a public bath on some obscure website - or pictures of my girlfriends buttom on mobile asses dot com - which seem to be very populair.
If Im walking down the street with my girl I would like to be warned if some fruitcake is taking pictures behind us - so that I can turn and kick him where its needed.
I dont find the camerasound to be a problem at all - If I am taking pictures of people or places where Im allowed to - they will expect the camerasound and dont mind. If people laugh at you because your camera makes sounds when you photograph them and you find this to be a problem - then dont take pictures.
I also dont find surprisepictures taken by my friends at night while we are out having fun - to be very funny - especially not the day after. For some odd reason - often its only the ones taking the pictures that find these surprisepictures funny.
Im not saying that people that dislike the camerasound are automatically perverts trying to take pictures they shouldent - what Im saying is not everyone beleive that every gooseball has the right to invade their privacy by taking pictures without their consent - and those that like to take pictures should respect that and simply learn to live with the camerasound in cameraphones weather you like it or not.

My prob aint that it makes a sound, its jus that the sound is nasty, its a crap effect. The one on my z600 is smooth and can b turned off. I understand it alerts ppl and thats cool, but at times its very inconvinient. Like in a lecture or a quiet place. Its a balanced debate but i aint sittiin on the fence, i aint too bothered that it MUST have a sound, i jus wish it was a little less grimey!

Think yourselves lucky it's not the high pitched beep i read about a while back. I assume like the one you get when starting the video recorder.
