@nitro and foxy:

The snapshot button will "remember" all the programs you have running in memory and record them into the snapshot file. This way, when you issue the "flush" function, SMan will compare what applications are running in memory againts the snapshot file and any program not listed in the snapshot file will be removed from memory.

If you want to keep something in memory, make sure you run it before you do a snapshot so that that program get "remembered."

The way a program terminates itself from memory are two ways. The first, which is not recommended is a "terminate via OS" which is when the OS forcefully removes the application from memory. This is the "forced endtask" option in SMan. When it is un-checked, SMan will issue a "please terminate" command to the application. The application will then close all necessary file, cleanup and house keeping tasks before removing itself from memory.

Then forced, only the memory space that the app is running will be freed, with the "please kill yourself" method, all memory request that the application had asked the OS will also be released before the main application quits itself.

The "flipclose flush" means that when you close the flip of your Pxx0, SMan will "assume" you are done with the PDA section and terminates all running applications (ie. flush them from memory).

Hope this explains everything nicely to the "layman" which us techies are so frequently guilty of offending...

Please forgive "Lord Mike" as he has helped a lot of users with SMan questions before. I guess he felt that the questions you ared should have been easily answered by the manual which a lot of people don't bother reading. Guess "Lord Mike" is a techie too.

Peace!

So what you say is, that the only thing in "Options" that is a good idea to mark is the "flipclose flush"? (and the "show hidden tasks" if that has any interest... )

The forced endtask is no good

What about the flush exclude...?

@Ajack
Hi Ajack
Before I go on! SMAN is a superb program and has transformed my p900 from a good device to a great one and for that I cannot praise your undenyable skills enough.

Your explanation of SMAN features here is great, so easy to understand, so why not write the manual like that in the first place?! Many of the p900’s target customers ie Business Users / enthusiasts want or need high functionality yet are no more technical than the rest of us Laymen Plain English is the best way to encourage customers to continue with a product and helps you save money (if you have to provide tech support) I know this from personal experience

In a previous life I started and ran a Software House developing Internet based recruitment process control software, my developers initially used a lot of “tech speak” in the customer system documentation but it just caused confusion amongst our clients when I prevailed and had the documentation re written into plain English that was easier for the layperson to understand our Telephone support calls reduced by 80%!! Moral of the story, it’s always worth remembering that your customers are never as familiar with the product as those who built it and are rarely as technically astute as your development team so make it simple for them and they will reward you with more orders (ps I paid for my copy of SMAN via handango!)

Regards Lord Mike, perhaps he is a techie but no one here is under any obligation to answer a question if you think it’s stupid simple don’t answer! I cannot defend people who feel like having a go at someone simply because they have decided that person is not up to the standard they feel everyone should achieve, ESATO is supposed to be a forum for people interested enough in SE phones to discuss them and seek more knowledge if we already have the knowledge we wouldn’t be here would we?! so lets just all help each other we all make mistakes! some here should remember ESATO is a Forum NOT a job

SMAN is a great product and please keep on with it’s development
all the best Nitro

@Foxhunter:

If you enable "flush exclude" in SMan, all programs that you have checked/ticked in the list of processos will not be affected by the flush command iregardless of wether the program is in the snapshot or not (ie. checking a runnning process makes it immune from the flushing process).

@Nitro Fun:

I agree with you that doing the manual in english would have made life easier for everyone. Unfortunately, I feel that being technical gives the exact facts and can always leave it to others to interrpret into "english" as I have seen seemingly simply english documentations not giving me exact technical details I require. I guess I am guilty of being too technical for my own good.

Lord Mike has done quite a bit of good work here in Esato, and him being human, may have been a little haste this time. I agree that this is a forum and not a job, but to most people, this is not a place for discussion but a place for finding answers to their question. Don't you agree? Anyway, please forgive my friend.

Thank you for contributing to SMan... Now, can you do that again and again every week for a whole year?

Any news on a fixed 1.3b version - tried downloading it again on the off chance it has been fixed and it still crashes when you flush tasks. Currently had to go back to 1.3a as 1.3b is unuseable.

I use Sman and HandyDay 2004. Handy day puts a icon at the buttom of the screen where I can choose: Close all applications, Close current application and close all applications but current!

The thing why I use HandyDay normally for killing tasks is becaus I don´t need to open any app. There pops up just a little list! Very Handy

Can you test SMan v1.4 beta 2 and tell me if the problem persists.
