To shyam335:

Motorola was also first with 3-band mobile phone several years ago. Then came Siemens, Ericsson and at last Nokia.

Now it goes in the same way. Motorola have made 4-band phones (also Siemens - as I read from somewhere). Let's hope that soon there will be first 4-band phone from SonyEricsson.

But maybe SonyEricsson wants to surprise us and in next year it will bring out world first 5-band phone: GSM 850/900/1800/1900/3G

Of course, it would have been much easier if it had been agreed all over the world on one mobile system and frequency - for example GSM 900.

palmOne has already hit the quadband market a while back with the treo600. Its a shame the P9x0s weren't made quadband.

You 1900 Mhz phone still works with Rogers almost everywhere. Just go outside if signal gets weak, that's all

Hey towson80

I know exactly what you mean. damm 850 MHz. I don't know why we have to be so defferent then the rest of the word. If all (most all) of the rest of the word can work just fine on 900 why they had to go out and invent 850. WHY????
Simple, it was not invented in USA, thats why.

Have a look at Global Positioning & Communication system invented by the Swedish inventor Håkan Lans.

http://www.gpc.se

It is a perfect system for positioning of and boats and aircrafts (also landing) and everybody wanted it as a world standard. But FAA said that they didn't want any european crap so they pushed on Boieng to develop a system that is very similar to this. Well, it wasn't as good as Lans system and when Russia adopted Lans system as their standard and UN wanted it as a world standard then US demanded that Lans gave up all his patents on the system. Well he did...

So, now it is possible for Boeing to make money on something they didn't invent. Wheeeeeee...

That's the american way, more profit with less effort, only because they have the money to buy everything they can't invent, and then they made all us belive that they invented it, and of course they profit it.

OUTSIDE!? Somehow I do not want to be standing outside in January freezing my arse off when I could be warm inside with my crappy 850mhz phone.

I think the 900mhz and 1800mhz is used by the militairy in the US.

btw about that "5" band phone, it would then actually be a quadband/dual mode as UMTS (WCDMA/3G etc.) is a different mode. Like IDEN/Satalite they are all different modes. As of now I've only seen single band/single mode phones like 900mhz/UMTS, the first dual band single mode will come out soon. 900/1800/UMTS and soon also triple band 900/1800/1900/UMTS. This means you can stil use the phone everywhere, but only for GSM. UMTS is still single band. Here the use 2000mhz, in Korea 1800mhz and somewhere else maybe 2100mhz. So in the future you will have dual band UMTS or even triple band UMTS. Like dual mode, triple band GSM/dual band UMTS
