It is a disadvantage of being with Orange, as you say, but the advantage is getting free upgrades after 8-9 months of your contract, if you're a reasonably heavy user.
Many of the users of this forum deliberate on whether to upgrade P8->P9 or P9->P910, given the likely release of whatever the rumoured next model is. On Orange, you can happily upgrade knowing that you'll be able to upgrade again to the latest handset in a few months time. Especially if they are going to get the handset first (like with the P8).
It is unusual to find a network that spares a thought for existing customers. In most countries they are focussed almost exclusively on attracting new customers.

They have added a couple of wizards (contacts, e-mail messaging accounts) and a piece of software that purports to back up your phone over the mobile network onto a secure Orange server. They have customised the startup screen ("Welcome to Orange") and added some themes and pictures.

You need to look at the bigger picture to realise why Orange did this. they have done this on the SPV's, and all recent smart phones to add a universal feel to the phone. This will be done on future handsets also as far as I have been told, to helpo customers to have a generic menu so they do not worry about changing menus when they upgrade each time. ~A universitility of menus if you like....in the same way Nokia keep theirs the same for many years.
Good idea but im def against it...

I'm probably gonna get slated for this but I actually like the Orange homescreen. I used to have an Orange SPV for 2 years which was cool. Then back in August I upgraded to the new SPV C500 which had the new Orange homescreen. I had to return this though due to problems copying files over bluetooth.
When I got my P910i I was actually pleased to see familiar Orange homscreen. Surely though if you don't like it, isn't there a way of changing it? I know on the SPV smartphones, you can change the homescreen theme.

I've just tested a P910i at my local Orange Store.
The ICONS look a bit naff, and when I opened the flip the screen went all wight, for about 10-20 seconds then the Orange Icons appeared on the left side of the screen, withou any text next too them.
Is this slow screen responce from when the keyboard is up then down, is this normal or is it because of Orange has changed the ICONS?

I personally can't stand this 'Homescreen' and I think it gets in the way of applications such as Handyday. Can anyone please help me get rid of this screen? I have the PC file manager for P910 if there perhaps a file I clould delete?
