A large number of ba$tards really pee me off on e-bay when they say they have like an i-pod of P900 for sale, then down the bottom it says something like

Quote:"this is not a product, but you are bidding to buy a link that will give you information as to where you can buy an i-pod/p900 for £20!"

Scmming, lying, ba$tard tossers!!!

I wish ebay employed a few people to delete those kind of things.... they are making moneyout of a LINK!

Yep, those link things are a waste of time - I sent £20 off to one partially through curiosity more than anything - I'll never see that £20 again! I suspect that although on very dodgy legal ground, they way the operate is within the law, and I don't think it's against Ebay policy to sell these links, even though they're a rip off!

btw, don't be too worried about low starting prices (unless it's a 'buy it now' price), I've sold many a phone on Ebay, and start all of them off at 99 pence. Believe me, they don't finish there!

Those links ARE against eBay policy and should be reported. In theory, eBay will pull all such "auctions". This message was posted from a T68i

I stand corrected there! They are a damned pest, and I've seen many an auction for one of these 'links' go for over £100 as people haven't realised they're just for links, and the person selling this link only points this out, often in small letters, at the end of a lengthy listing!

In that case, I should report every one of those that I find then I think!

Those auctions are a real pain and they make it more difficult for genuine sellers to operate. Of course, eBay could more actively police their site and I look forward to the day someone commences a test case against them for conspiracy to defraud. This message was posted from a T68i

I never would buy from ebay as all I've heard is bad.
(I know most are ok).

My old post about this topic

Watch out when buying from ebay!

Hi, I won a brand new and boxed P910i on eBay by careful bidding on a good seller (check the feedback). I then got the phone debranded and unlocked from Vodapain for £20, and saved myself a total of over £200 on a new SIM free one. I would suggest doing your homework 1st but I had a good experience and am very happy with my phone.

I avoid most of the links by careful use of the search criteria:

p900 -nokia -motorola -torx -"win this auction" -"twenty pounds" -"the information" -p800
& min price £40

seemed to filter out 90% of them, and stoopid screwdrivers etc.

Theoretically ebay will pull links, but have you actually tried to get
an email through to them? Some of ebay has strange cookie timeouts and I found the complaint bit just doesn't work.

Some people bid unfeasibly large amounts on the links to highlight them using accounts like 'this_is_a_scam' etc, which is a nice touch.

I, and about ten others, stupidly spent £5 in getting the information on how to upgrade the P900 to a P910. The guy had 100% feedback so I thought it was quite safe.
Then reading various forums about the benefits of the upgrade, I realised there was a good chance that my BT headset would not work after. So I asked for my money back and eventually got it.
The information the bidders got sent directed them, with links, to the AllaboutSymbian website and a thread all about the subject. It also mentioned about getting SE Fighter etc to make the upgrade or contacting your SE Service Centre to do it for you! Not quite the information you were looking for.
To cut a long story short, I made such a fuss, threatening dire feedback etc and the guy refunded all the other bidder's money saying he had been given duff information. It is possible I suppose, but at least he did not run off with the money as he could have done.
I bought a P900 on eBay the week before and the transaction was faultless. You just have to be very very careful with who you deal with. Sometimes, it's just a gut feeling you get.
