no-one is going to unbar it. well the company isnt. if they did, everybody would be claiming "lost phones" and the company will make huge losses.

The company have probably locked the IEME - it's standard practise. If your friend lets them know it's been found they may well unbar it. The phone is of no real use to the company so it may work out well for you.

Why don't you just turn it on and see what's the situation? it it's not going to explode, anyway you can't use it turned off, so what if it's locked?.
And if the phone was paid separately, then isn't it property of the client and not the provider?, or once you have claimed a loss it became company's property?

In my leaflet for the insurance i have it says that if you find a phone thats been replaced under insurance, like this case, its the insurance companies property.
I cant find the leaflet now but i remember it says that.

Have u tried another sim card in the phone pref not same network as the phones on? PAYG sim card etc? I dunno but orange blocked my mates phone and it worked on other networks fine :-)

legally you have to return the old phone to your insurance company because they own it not you.
