Oh sorry to hear that - but i still think I depends on the person you get on the phone. Some seem to be clueless and others will know that they have to charge.

Damn! Bad news. After what seemed like a nice free trip to CPW to get the generic software installed I ended up having to pay £30!
I went into the shop and the assistant I spoke to said "fine, we will update this with generic software" etc etc. BUT THEN...the idiot who served me the last time butts in and tells him he has to charge me! He said that he was on the phone about it earlier in the day and that Sony Ericsson wont pay them to work on the phone. The other sales assistant was a bit surprised about this and he insisted that it was checked out. They both proceeded to go into the back room for about 10minutes to find out what to do.
So, the sales assistant comes back saying that Sony Ericsson wont pay them for updating this phone. He said that SE could not pay for it because its a vodafone mobile with vodafone software. Thus, the charge falls on to me....£30
I have to go back later today to pick it up.
Still, seems a bit expensive considering the engineer will spend about 10minutes updating my phone. I wonder if the engineer gets paid by the hour or not....
Money is all they care about it seems in that shop.

Make sure you tell the guy who served you that you will be contacting sony as you don't think you should have paid (that makes sure they get the money and not him)
make sure the receipt also says that CPW will do future updates FOC under warranty as you can not use the online update now or it will put your phone back to Vodafone.

Err...
Why should CPW flash your phone (purchased from Vodacrap) with generic FW, if they DON'T get paid for it? You didn't even damn well buy it from them!
£30 is a standard CPW repair charge, and since you have a receipt, it is safe to assume they are not pulling a fast one and pocketing the money, but even if they were.....I fail to see why you think you are entitled to a free generic flash just because you want one. You're lucky they're doing it at all (given the experiences of others who have tried and failed), never mind complaining about having to pay £30.
And I doubt very much that you will get them to agree that all future FW updates should be free, given that you are choosing to unbrand your phone, and the fact that that then means that you can't use SEUS is surely your own problem.

Am I missing something here? If you want to access the
internet you just have to enter a dialup account into
the setup and make it the default.
For example I have a simlocked vodafone p910i and
have set it up to dial up my demon account, and I use
Opera to surf the web.
