@Lundmark
I'm not aware of any apps on osx that provide backup functionality. If you don't have a PC then your only option ( as far as I'm aware ) is Virtual PC.. I don't know if that will work either.

I have a PC. No problem using one of them as a backup utility.

Or, I can always use an on-board backup utility on my phone to backup onto a memory stick. No problem.
Back to the other question about dupes. I purchased a program from
www.lbetoolbox.com for $30 bucks just to remove duplicate items in Outlook (and subsequently on my phone). What do I do if dupes occur on a Mac?

@Lundmark,
Simple. Pick the main or base device that will provide the first sync. I generally use my Mac. I set up the contacts, calendars, etc... the way I want them and then I perform one sync. All information syncs to match the Mac. Second. There are options to simply delete the offending duplicates and perform a sync and they are gone. This is no real major issue. Did you look into the application: GoBetween?
www.pocketmac.net. This app is just what you need, and it works rather well.

Howdy lads.....
I'm replacing the worst purchase of any kind I ever made in my life- a Handspring Treo 270 (and I've made some real bad decisions before)-with a new PDA/Phone.
This much I'll say for the Treo- it's made me completely dependant on a PDA/Phone. I can't bring myself to carry a seperate PDA and phone anymore.
Anyhoo... I run an iBookG3/500MHz Combo (yes a real old iBook) running OSX Jaguar 10.2.8
Whatever I buy must sync to iCal and Address Book on this machine. I've not upgraded to Panther yet because I haven't yet come across any reason to do so.
If I buy one of those USB Bluetooth adapters, will the P900 sync with these iApps as seamlessly as your posts above seem to suggest?
Cheers for the advice lads- the P900 is on the top of the list at the moment- I just need this confirmation to decide on it. I could have bought a Treo 600 and to be honest it would have been much cheaper than the P900 as well as running a familiar OS but enough is sufficient I think- I just don't trust Handspring/PalmOne anymore.

@DIRAVIdude,
I am not 100% sure but you might need to finally upgrade to 10.3.6 (just came out today). It has all the Bluetooth that you need, which is missing in 10.2.8. I know that Panther supports the P900 wonderfully. Also see my post about the application: GoBetween (www.pocketmac.net), if you need to sync Entourage. Also PocketMac has plenty of sync conduits for various devices. Another one to look at is called: the Missing Sync at:
www.markspace.com. Hope this helps.

sapporobaby......
Thanks for the reply dude......
Actually no entourage- I don't run Microsoft applications (not even IE) and I'd like to keep it that way. I guess I'm just a non-conformist.
Hehehe.
In any case I think that if it's just a question of having to upgrade to Panther then I reckon I may chance it. I'm not going back to PalmOne without a fight.
Anybody else have any experience with OSX 10.2.8 iApps?

I can understand your feelings about MS applications, however in regards to Panther, if you want to use the Bluetooth and iSync funtions, you will have to upgrade. There is no other way around this. Second, I am new to Mac but from what I undersand, Panther is much better by leaps and bounds over Jaguar. Tiger promises to be much better as well and I will upgrade as soon as it hits the market. In short, if you want to ue the newer technologies, you will have to upgrade.

What about third-party applications, like SplashPhoto and SplashID. If they would have had desktop counterparts, would they have worked using iSync?

I dunno lads...... I think Jaguar will surprise me- it usually does.
If it's just a question of upgrading to Panther I may do it but not if it means that if I want to sync my P900 then I'll have to sync it into Entourage. No way. I have been Microsoft-free for 5 years now and life is great. I'll go Treo before I go Microsoft.
In short I'll try it with Jaguar first, upgrading only if it doesn't work. What USB bluetooth adapters would you recommend?
Cheers

oooo.. btw sapporobaby....
Take it from me- I been with Macs since OS9.2 well actually since System 7 but never mind. The thing is DO NOT migrate over to Tiger as soon as it's launched. Hang on a few months.... once you start seeing OSX 10.4.3 or something available then go get it.
Believe me... Apple is everything Microsoft should be but they're not perfect either. Wait man.... a few months before upgrading.
In my case a couple years- Jaguar is so good I've just never had the need. Maybe the P900 will provide the reason for the upgrade.
Cheers
