Ok, then by that analogy... all camera phones that claim VGA resolution are interlaced as well since I've seen that comb-filter look on ALL "VGA" phones, including Nokias.

That's probably more to do with the way it takes the picture, interlacing is not unlikely but it doesn't mean it's not full vga size, it just means you should hold the camera more steady ;-) . Besides, if it was interlaced it would be 640x240 not 320. This message was posted from a T610

Also the T610 doesn't even HAVE a camera! It's an optical illusion done with lenses & mirrors & a BIG LIE from SE!

@MikLSP

LOL Of course I have no proof!
I'm not going to reverse-engeneer the camera hardware or the P9x0 firmware... forget it.
But I do have a lot of experience in image analysis.

What I'm doing is like looking at tracks in the mud that look like tire tracks. You can say they were hand made, but I say they were made by a tire.
In the end you win because I will not prove to you they are tire tracks.

Yes surely all you've proved is that the pixel sample-and-hold
was taken at two different times, and that there is structure
to this process. (This is hardly surprising given that when using
video, the CCD almost certainly only reads out alternate lines).

What you really need to do it to clamp the handset really
still and point it at some fine detail, too small for the lower
resolution to resolve, then examine the resultant photo.

If you make sure most of the scene is flat, with only fine detail
in part of it, it should be easily captured even with .jpg imposed.

@aq
Good idea! that would prove or disprove my theory!
I think I have the right test for this to work.
I'm gonna print some patterns and look in the interference patterns for how deep the resolution goes.
I'll see if I can do this tonight.

@ aq
It's not actually a CCD sensor. The S700 is only current phone with that type.

@_LAU_
so u should look at other possibilities that could explain what u see. It does not automatically suggest it is not VGA

I'm sure would have to state if it was interlaced, like with the K700, that's stated as having a VGA camera, that can interlace ~1mp, surely they'd have to say that the P9*0 was a QVGA (is that right?) camera, that can be interlaced to VGA

if you buy a P910 for photos or even movies, forget it, I don't use all this, I use it for surfing & email & the great calender with all extra programs I installed. Who cares about the camera anyway? Maybe I took 5 pictures with a P800/P900/P910 it since I had one (>1,5 years) so you can imagine how thrilled I am having a damn camera on my mobile !
