havenīt heard of it beeing not official - just unknown to most hobby players. Itīs a move only possible when your adversary is moving his pawn from itīs basic position next to your pawn (either one- or doublefield); then you can beat it only instantly (no futher moves) by passing by - 'en passant' which means you move diagonally behind the pawn (your doing the normal pawn's beating move but on an empty field, nevertheless you can take the adversary's pawn away..)

Dont say that, if you practise enough (too much time on my hands) you will become quite good very quickly, but it takes ages to become really really good. Unless you are a genius.

En-passant. (Schlagen im voruebergehen)
There is one special rule, called taking en-passant. When a pawn makes a double step from the second row to the fourth row, and there is an enemy pawn on an adjacent square on the fourth row, then this enemy pawn may move to the square on the third row that was passed over, and taking the other pawn. This taking en-passant must be done directly: if the player who could take en-passant does not do this in the first move after the double step, this pawn cannot be taken anymore by an en-passant move.
