I was talking with SonyEricsson ...

They may even be removing some functionality you know?
Maybe some lawyer found a country with a law that do not alow someone to send SMS to multiple persons at the same time, or stuff like that...

Now seriously, I have the previous firmware. I'm glad to say I've never found any bug in my P910i

I hope they are adding some new stuff.

Upgrade went OK, but I had trouble restoring. Program said "Device busy, try again later", but I could sync and browse the phone, and suddenly I was able to restore the phone.

I had the same problem but I just restarted my computer and then it worked. I dont like that it takes so long time to restore compared to backup.

Hi!
I hope that somebody can answer my question...
I wonder what happens when you upgrade the firmware in your phone, with the installed applications on the memorycard...will they appear like before, in the categories that you have put them in, like for example: games, programs, internet etc. and about the registration of the programs, will upgrading not affect that? I mean, if you bought a license for a program installed on the memorycard, will it still be registered after upgrading the phones firmware?
And about all the contacts, how do you do to make a backup of them, and put them back onto the phone after upgrading the phone? I see in QuickContact, that you can make a backup and store it on the memorycard, and restore them from this file...this really works?

Hope somebody knows all this!

Thanks!

Hey, ok hope this helps, firstly the easiest way to backup your phone is to connect it to your computer using the sync cable. Then use the program 'Backup and restore' (found on in the Sony Ericsson folder on the start button). This is of course if you have a Windows machine, if you have a mac it is not so easy (you would be able to backup contacts and calender entries but all you setting would be lost)...

...anyway assuming that you are using windows, the backup would basically have all you settings (e.g. ringtones, internet setting and of course the way you sorted your programs in the categories. So there is no worries there...also by upgrading the software it does NOT change your IMEI number (which is used for registration numbers)..therefore you would not lose any programs installed on you phone or memory card.

Basically by backup up and restoring your phone, after you upgrade the software it would seem that nothing has changed (apart from of course the bug fixes and so forth)...

...hope that helped

On another topic the link is not working at the moment, those who have updated the software...any noticable differences? Or it is more background changes...?

Hi Trancedancer,

I would reccomend you to go with the update procedure given by SE. I've gone through it once and it worked flawlessly. Since your P9xx is already connected to your PC in order to update it, you have no reason not to back it up properly, so back it up as they tell you to, and you'll be fine.

By all means, do try the rest of the backup methods you were asking about, but *make sure* you have the good ole' backup done with the SE backup tool. If all goes pear-shaped with restoring from the "other" backups, at least you have *one* good backup.

So what I'm saying is:

1). make as many backups as you want with any tools you want
2). Make and verify one last good backup with the SE tool according to the manual/procedure
3). Upgrade firmware
4). Attempt restore from your backups
5). If step 4 fails consistently, then it's obvious you won't be using them
next time. Now you can restore your data off the good SE backup.
6). Optional, post your findings here.

Ino!~

Hi
I upgraded last night. It was quite late when it finished restoring, so I didn't had the time yet to search for differences.
On the surface everything seems OK, just like before.
I'm glad to say that I don't know why I upgraded, since I never found a bug in SE software/firmware, but anyway it's done!

Edit:
I forgot ...
The update didn't run in my Windows XP. I have every last version of XP and IE, killed the firewall, etc. Nothing worked.
Fortunately I remembered reading in Esato this is kinda normal and is Java related, so I searched and installed a new Java engine.
After that it worked perfecty!
Here's the link:

Hi,
I too upgraded last night, it took more than SE said and the restore was not 100% as I lost the internet and wap settings.
Up til now I can't find any differences but I must say the applications tend to be a little faster while starting other than that nothing, still looking .....
