Well, he did jump to a conclusion but it is interesting what happened and I can see how he would think that his phone is using the 900MHz band.
In a forum like this it's better to start out saying "look what happened" and see what people say instead of making a guess (even if it's a good one) unless you have a more reliable test. I think what happened is that previously Cingular did not have support for 1900MHz in your area, however AT&T did, so one of your phones was using only 850MHz, and the other didn't work, and now that the companies have merged both are able to use the 1900MHz band, so one is 850/1900 and one is just 1900. Either that or God is playing a cruel joke on you!
