I don't think it is a faulty battery... if it was hardware it would happen 'all the time' or at least more frequently than it has.
i am hoping it is software and has something to do with the level of charge, the theme being used, or something else specific to that moment it started doing it. perhaps it was polling to the network and that caused it to go nuts then the second time it did it was just after I switched it on again.
Fortunately, it hasn't happened since. this is the only bug I have found with the phone so far. well, since I removed VodaCrap from it anyway.
