errr... I just realised that SMSChat can permanently turn on Delivery Report for all SMS that we sent.

I downloaded SMSChat and turned on delivery reports in t's preferences, but it didn't affect the normal behaviour
if I write the SMS with flip closed no report at all
if I write it with flip open, I have to turn it on manually
how dod SMSChat help you?

This is one of the features I truly miss about my T610 - permanent SMS delivery reports. I wonder is SE will hear our cries and enable this in a future firmware release?

it also seems that the p910 doesnt handle delivery reports properly anyway, instead of being able to check the status of a message and finding it to be "pending" or "delivered", when it is deliveredit just shows the SMS recieved saying it was delivered (at least thats what i get on my orange p910, as well as the annoying answerphone sms messages which cannot be deleted). seems they really didnt bother when they wrote the sms part of the messaging app. A bit half-arsed if you ask me.

Nokia communicator handles delivery reports beautifully, you don't receive a "SMS" as you do in the P910i, but you can cross-check the delivery status if you want to, which is shown seperately. This indeed is a shortcoming in the P910i. The flip side, however, is that as delivery reports congest the network, specially during Christmas/New Year, so one doesn't ask for delivery reports unecessarily each time one sends a SMS. If it is essential, one can always manually ask for a delivery report for each SMS.

@thefireman,
SMSChat is a standalone application by itself, thus you need to use SMSChat to send and receive SMS in order for Delivery Report to work (note that Delivery report only works in the full version and I can 100% confirm that cos I own a copy)... It can also be configured to print a copy of the delivery status into SMSChat's chat box itself rather than just a mere "meessage that disappears in a few secs"... Install SMSChat 1.7x and goto the preferrences menu. There you will find tons of settings to customise the way SMSChat handles SMS. With 1.71 and above, it also includes a built in SMS Reminder and now I am using SMSChat 1.72 to completely replace my P900 and P910i's built in SMS app. Do note that currently version of SMSChat only works in Flip Open mode.
Cheers
Edit: this the their new webby btw

What network are you on? O2 UK doesnt support delivery as standard. The only way O2 customers can get a delivery report is to start the message with *0#
