I can't get it to work in Outlook either. I've given up rather quickly though, I've had such a bad day, I've decided to postpone this till tomorrow.

Ok, so everybody agrees; Gmail just doesn't work. Point taken.

Now the solution? I'll try to contact Gmail tomorrow. I bet they're gonna say that I should contact SE///.

Someone on my-symbian forum emailed Gmail and this is the answer he got:
"Thank you for your email. Currently, Gmail does not support POP access to
Sony/Ericsson phones. As we continue with our beta test release of Gmail,
we look forward to providing additional features and enhancements to our
service.

Sincerely,

The Gmail Team"

He emailed them again, asking them to explain why is that and we're all waiting for the answer.

@jade,

thanks for your post and that explains why everyone can't seem to connect. i am surprised though gmail would roll out the 'enable pop' feature that does not work. it's like dangling a piece of truffle in your face, yet you can't have it.

gmail gets everyone's hopes up for nothing !!!

for what's worth - Gmail POP3 access works impressively well with Mozilla (and Out-of-luck 200x - or so I'm told). I would think it's merely a limitation of the SE handset than a GMaul problem.

One of these weeks when i'll get my P910 (grr!) I'll start investigating exactly *why* the damned thing doesn't work and I may be able to come up with some tech answers. I'm not promising anything at this point since my phone is still being negociated upon and I have no ideea when I'll get it, let alone the fact whether i'll be successful in actually finding anything about the Gmail POP3 problem.

Anyways, to cut to the chase, it seems like at least P900/P910 are *designed* to support SSL connections:

http://www.sonyericsson.com/p[....]utions/spg.jsp?template=pp_3_1

Now, whether that's "SE's understanding of SSL" or the "Real Deal SSL[TM]", that's anyone's guess at this point.

Ino!~

I.e. it does work on other mobile phone brands? Freakin' SE///'s. ;)
