I would probably return the handset. No use getting a 3G handset if they can't offer the data speed in the first place.

But there is a difference, i think, with putting a vodafone old payg sim into the V800. I am quite sure vodafone will have made 3g features available on the new sim supplied with the V800 because it is a 3g phone.

no that's in fact not correct, all vodafone sims are the same.
that is why vodafone even advertises that every vodafone user with a 3G phone will have access to the 3G services, on every voda sim... however I was unaware that PAYG sims won't have the speed.

Thats correct, but at that time and after many Calls to the technical department they came back and said it was not officallly released (3g) on payg, which at that time was true.
Now it's offical and the problem is still there
Just off the phone again from Vodafone, thankfully to someone who knew what they are on about. He told me the information I was giving last night was utter rubbish. Still no soloution though

payg uses different APN's compared to postpaid so I guess that is one difference, and I wonder how many people are trying to use payg on v800 and how many would notice the speed deficit?
the opening post has a comment about payg portal not having enough bandwidth so that does tie in somewhat with it using a different APN
mind you, if that was the cause of the problem then any model phone using a vodafone payg account would experience the same slow speeds but again I wonder if many people would notice?
