There's always a prob for me to pay extra charge when some noobie play with my phone and they accidently go online

I don't know about everybody else but when somebody wants to look at my phone they're always good at ringing someone by accident.

Hi @mikLSP, just a bit of correction... "Preferred service > GSM only" does not disable gprs access. When you select that option, it means that gprs reception is initiated ONLY when you activate the browser or when you run an app that uses web access. On the other hand, the "Preferred service > GSM and gprs" option is equivalent to the "gprs always on" option in Nokias. This consumes more battery. This message was posted from a K700i

yup chilli's right. It only disables the gprs signal monitoring - that blue upside down triangle over the signal reception bars. a dummy account would be the easiest way out.

Yup I agree, using "GSM only" will still automatically enable GPRS once the browser is activated. I would suggest you do both options, that way when it fails to connect to the dummy account it also automatically turns off GPRS.

I suggest this workaround: Create a dummy data account with a nonexistent APN, then point your active internet profile to it whenever you don't need to use gprs.

You can make the dummy account as the "second account." Connectivity -> Internet settings -> Internet profiles -> More -> Advanced -> Second account -> Select account

This way, connection won't be made even if you accidentally activate the browser.

Hi Chilli,
Great idea you have there. It works! Now i shall have no problem letting other play with my phone and not worry about them touching the 1st 2 icons. Thanks...

Hi @meowo, pls. do the following:

1) Create a dummy data account. -- Already done by yourself, so no need for explanations.

2) Create a new internet profile. -- Connectivity > Internet settings > Internet profiles > New profile.

New profile settings:
• Name: Any name you want (e.g., "dummy internet")
• Connect using: Select the dummy data account that you created in step 1.
• Click "Save."
• Now go to the dummy internet setting that you just created and click More > Settings
• Connect using: -- should now show your dummy data account
• Internet mode -- Select "Http"
• Use proxy -- Select "No." Because if you select "Yes," it will ask you for an I.P. address.

Now everytime you don't need to use gprs access, just select the dummy internet profile. The browser will initiate, but contact will not be successful. Hence you will not be charged.

To use gprs successfully, just switch back to your service provider's default internet profile.

Note: Never mind the "second account" that I mentioned in my first post. It works for me but since you sometimes lend your phone to others, it's not as foolproof as the one I just described above.

Cheers!
