vanquish,

The point that masseur is making, I think, is that it takes more than a new stand and a couple of new jackets to make a success of this concept, which, in his experience (which, it should be noted, appears to be the only actual experience of anyone here) is mostly a cosmetic change, not a new breed of experts coming to your local Sony Centre.

I would agree that if this is, as I'm sure it is, merely another route to market for products, without a great deal of thought having been put in, in terms of improving the customer experience and actually using it as an opportunity to strengthen the brand, then it sounds like one will continue to be better off buying from mobile experts (at least in theory) like the networks themselves or CPW, than a bunch of guys that used to sell mini-disc players before Apple screwed them!

But I guess we should give them the chance to prove us wrong...

Indeed, I can't see a downside if we do get a bit more local expertise and new product exposure from these guys. It would be nice to see more of this from all the manufacturers actually. I know that when they are solely selling their products through retailers, the key features and selling points of the hardware can get lost as it is filtered down from manufacturer rep to sales consultant and the customer gets a garbled version of the bits the sales consultant understood. Perhaps something like this, which allows them to market and sell directly to the public will result in a better level of understanding of the use to which this technology can be put.

Well, here's hoping anyway

in simpler terms, it will make more people buy having a large area dedicated to it, and they will (i have been told this morning) not be idiots of the street, they will be trained service men.

And what masseur is saying is of personal opinion and not fact. I can assure you that everything a mod posts is not always in stone fact and a lot of it is opinion.

Of course wearing jackets will not make a man knowledgable about the firm, but as i say, there will be trainers there.

I have Esato for my news, the point i was making is that it will make more known to the public having people that know what they are talking about, those people the ones that haven't found Esato!

someone is getting very serious here, I do hope you're not in one of your bad moods!

the only time I am a mod is when I am moving or closing threads or doing other such duties, the rest of the time I am just another member imparting my knowledge, relating my experiences or expressing my opinions

anyway, lets be thanksful we do have Esato!

Vanquish,

I think we actually largely agree, and that the success will depend on how the good the service actually turns out to be. Of course, I hope you're right about the training etc. As someone who works in the industry and has therefore experienced some of the most over-promised and under-delivered service from networks and manufacturers alike, I might be a bit sceptical until I actually see it happening.

You're a bit defensive, though. Nobody said that what masseur or anyone else said was cast in stone. I was really trying to say that my opinion was similar and say what I thought.

Anyway, the important thing is that this looks a step in the right direction and hopefully will benefit us all.

The other important thing is....that it's Christmas!
