Hi all,

afaik, Apple is one of the founder (or sole founder) of MPEG 4 AAC codec, thus Itunes AAC should be among the best in the market for converting music of other formats to AAC/M4A music.I've tried Nero's before, and I still prefers Itune's way of converting cos it allows instant playback of the first song immediately while still converting the rest in the background

Edit:

@ Maratonmannen

I hope this answers your questions

Cheers

Yeah, iTunes does, as far as i know, if you install it on windows do the following at first launch: Firstly, it searches your computer for .mp3, .m4a, m4p (protected AAC) and .wma files and adds them all to the library. Out of all these formats, .wma is the only one it doesn't play correctly, so it takes it and converts it to .m4a (AAC).
I would highly recommend it but then i would -- I have a mac!
For you windows users out there who fancy using something a little bit more flexible, I would reccomend DMC. Do a google for it, it's a program that proclaims itself as a "digital audio army knife" and can convert a LOT of formats into a whole lot of others. Can also rip CDs and fill in ID3 tag info from the CDDB. It's not as elegant as iTunes and is far from pretty, but I guess if you want to specify up-to-the-dot bit-rates, then this one's for you
As for not wanting to have a half-mp3, half-AAC library, you're in a similar position to me (most of my music's mp3) but to be honest, getting all my new tracks in AAC makes no difference as it looks and sounds exactly the same using iTunes. The only difference is that the files are smaller

Sound quality of AAC on the P910i is excellent by the way, and it can also be used as ringtones

Have fun!

Yes,

how can I forget this... dBpowerAMP is the next best thing to conversion of multiple audio formats, and of course, it's FREE

Hi,

just to keep everyone here informed that I had read in other forums future versions of Unreal Player and Vito Sound Explorer will incorporate support for AAC/M4A codecs, at least when used on a P910i. Thus we may have better apps for playing back our beloved AAC music due to the fact that these 3rd party apps fully supports playlist, and I was told that Vito Sound Explorer will also include Equalizer for boosting the music

If you think ogg is too big then AAC is nothing for you, try 64 kbit ogg, reasonable sound for a phone and small files.

Hi,

in Itunes, goto Edit-->Preferences-->Importing to set your preferred AAC bitrates.

In the main menu, you can select any songs and right click over the song will prompt you a menu with "Convert Selection to AAC".
