ignore all posts that advise the difference between duo and pro duo to be based on memory capacity. that info is not correct.
here is the basic info you need to understand memorystick:

1. memorystick name refers to the sony proprietary card
2. memorystick comes in two lengths
3. regular size memorystick (called just "memorystick") comes in memory capcity from 8 MB to 1GB.
4. smaller size memorytick is called "Memorystick Duo". Duo was developed to fit in mobile devices such as fones. Duo memory capacity is EXACTLY THE SAME as the larger sized regular Memorystick. Smaller devices required smaller dimensions, so Duo size was developed.
5. PRO: there are PRO versions of both the regular sized Memorystick and Duo.
6. The difference between PRO and non-PRO versions of either size are two parameters: speed and ambient working environment. Speed: PRO is twice as fast non-PRO. Environment: PRO version can work in low temperatures. This is very important if you want to access yr fone's card outside during winters. It is not well known, but the memorystick (non-PRO) environment only is supported to zero degrees celsius. Obviously not useful in fones that are used outside in the winter. If yr fone supports PRO, then get PRO. it is faster access read and write time espeicially in winter is important.

Notes:
Duo memory size: the 1GB size was supposed to come out in November 2004. It is delayed until Feb, 2005.
ScanDisk has been licensed to make memorysticks/pro. The ScanDisk memorysticks are exactly the same as SONY version, including quality. ScanDisk makes the memorystick for SONY (for some of the versions, but not all).
There will be coming out in February 2005 additions to what SONY calls HIGH SPEED memory sticks. These sticks which have the name HIGHSPEED written on them will be even faster than the PRO versions.
When you go shopping for memorysticks, read what it says on the stick itself. Never trust the retailer to know all the above info.If you ask him "is this high speed", he will always say yes, when in fact, it might not be.
Regular and Duo capacity: capacity is the same up until 1GB. It is true that regular size memorystick has come out over 1GB. Duo has no plans at present to support over 1GB.

Lastly, there is a site in english that has all the above info: memorystick.com. However, user beware: it is not a very well organized site, so info is hard to understand.
