It's not too hard to understand though, it's like asking your PC to wake you up at a specified time when it's turned off. It's just not going to happen.
Sorry guys

I'm sorry to disapoint you but that can be done with almost every pc nowadays.
Just go to the bios setup and under power management you will find that option.

I'm not talking about a BIOS, i'm talking about software waking up an electronic device. If our P900's had a configurable BIOS chip in them like PC's, i'm sure you'd have your alarm capability, but i'm referring to software waking up either device, it's just not going to happen.
I'm not sure how old phones managed to 'wake up' from an Off state, but there was obviously still power running through them when they were off, and due to the simplicity of the devices it was probably some form of hardware device which initiated the alarm. The P900's are much different in design.

To answer the topic, the alternative I use is Magic Profiles. I have a "normal" profile and a "flight" profile. At 0:00 on workdays it is schedulled to activate the "flight" profile (simple flight mode, disconnected from the network, and, as was reffered, the least battery spending mode) and at 8:00 it activates the "normal" profile (phone on, with sound, bluetooth on, etc).
Cheers.

Actually, the P series is not so different. It is never completely off, unless the battery is removed. The clock is always running. The clock will be a separate chip (or a separate part of another chip) which uses a tiny amount of power, just lie a watch. I think the clock chip would also be responsible for activating the phone at an alarm time. It may be that the P series does not use this function because of a software limitation or it could be a hardware issue.

So you're telling me if i take my battery out, then my clock will stop running?
Sorry but i find that hard to believe. If you've ever opened a P900 you would notice there's a tiny button cell battery in the phone which keeps the clock crystal running inside the phone. The main battery has got nothing to do with it, and does little more than provide enough power to pick up a press on the power button.
If all phones used the main battery to power the clock, imagine how many times you'd have to enter the time!

Many phones do use the main battery to run the clock. A small capacitor will provide enough power for a few minutes without the main battery. I am sure you are correct about the button cell in a P??0 - I have never looked. It does not change the fact that the phone is never completely off.

That depends on what you define as 'Off' in phone terms, my friend

In this thread we are talking about whether the phone can switch itself on from its 'off' state. I am believe that should in theory be possible. We would need some feedback from the SE developers to tell us why this has not been implemented. Chances of getting that = naff all

Any C programmers here that would be willing to attempt it?
I don't think it's going to happen to be honest. Sorry for being pessimistic!
On another note, after my P900 went PLOP, it actually started turning itself on, but thats another story
I wouldn't recommend you try wetting your P900's either!

I doubt that it will happen either. SE would need to release some detailed hardware info. It is probably the sort of thing that could only be done by the OS anyway. It is possible that there is a limitation within the hardware implementation that will stop it from being possible.
