Actually it is possible... as long as you have an original SE car kit (not just the cradle)

I think that was their whole marketing idea.
Buy the cradle, that's what you get... get the whole car kit... and you get all these additional features. Kinda makes sense too, considering that other car kits are just mic/speaker extensions. At least SE's carkit actually interacts with the phone.

@djkizlive,
Can you activate the 'power save' after 1 minute?
Power save must be on! When not in a car cradle or in a sync station, then P900's lights should go off, when the 'power save' activate.
Hey there!
That did the trick! My settings are:
Light: On
Light(car): On
Power Save: Clock
Active after: 1 mins
This makes the backlight stay on for 1 minute when in my hand, it dims after about 10 seconds to conserve power. then after 1 minute the screen turns off and displays the clock.
When the phone is in the sync station, the power mode is disabled because the phone is charging, and therefore the backlight remains on.
Brilliant! I would prefer if i could set the power save to activate after 10 mins, but i don't want the backlight on for that long otherwise battery life would run down, but it's a partial solution, and it will have to do
Thanks CarMode, i really appreciate your help and comments

Yes that's true, but not much point in buying the car kit if i don't have a car to put it in (yet).
I thought car mode would be the same as a phone with a charger plugged in, as most people have cigarette lighter adaptors.
I've found a partial solution as stated above, which seems to work ok for now. It's the best it'll be able to do without the car kit i suppose. Thanks for the help though

@djkizlive,
My pleasure, but l was just telling the same as P900RUGBY said first.
BTW in P910 this works even better, due to a possibility to adjust brightness. I think in P900 the light is all too bright at night-time.
