No good with the very very helpful young lady at vodafone-sounded very nice too,
Looks like I'm going to have to get it re-flashed as soon as poss.
Tried looking to find out where my nearest cpw express repair centre is but their website seems to be down,
does anybody know if there is anywhere in the east midlands sort of area that do it?

@t5chav: Isnt it supposed to be possible to do that yourself from the SE website? This message was posted from a P800

it is not possible to de-brand a phone using online update. The program can check if you have a branded phone and will not offer unlocked firmware.

I know a guy with same problem. Your phone is branded, and it canNOT be unbranded by yourself. I tried terminator aswell, but since terminator does not support flashing the GDFS area where these settings are stored, so you need to go to a service centre (or buy expensive flashing hardware like a Fighter but nowhere in the little details of those dongles it is stated it can reprogram the GDFS of a P9x0!!). If the eBay LIAR who sold you this phone as unbranded did not give you the original invoice with it, forget having this phone ever reflashed since they won't do it without a proof of purchase. Maybe the eBay con used Terminator to reset SP codes, and thought this would unbrand this phone...
Lesson AGAIN: never buy mobiles from eBay, the risk is too high getting screwed.

Oh yeah, verify if the IMEI number on the sticker under the battery is the same as the one displayed. If not, your phone is most likely a stolen one too...

CPW Service Centres in the East Midlands:

Leicester:
http://www.carphonewarehouse.[....]/gben-contact-BranchInfo?id=78

Nottingham:
http://www.carphonewarehouse.[....]gben-contact-BranchInfo?id=821

They are the only two i know of that offer the flashing service in the East Midlands. I'm sure there are more than this. I went to the leicester store not too long ago, and they wanted to charge me £30 for a firmware reflash.

Absolute ripoff!

@djkizlive
Yeah,thats what i'd been told that it would cost £30 from cpw,to be honest i am getting a bit fed up with cpw anyway,i haven't had a definate answer from them whether or not they can do it,its 25 mile drive to the nearest express service centre so i need to find out first if they will do it or not.

@Dirkies

To be fair to the lad who sold me the phone via ebay-was selling it for someone else who told him it was unlocked and unbranded-or at least that was his story.
it does have the right imei number and was boxed etc etc so i'm sure it's ok.It's just pissed me off that i bought it for the same amount that a truly unlocked/unbranded p9 would cost and it's cost me £16 for the terminator dongle and another £30 or so to get it unbranded

Thanks anyway for the help chaps

cheers
