i had installed a Sony Ericsson SDK, i think the java version, perhaps that is causing some sort of conflict.
i remember last time when i instaleld the PC Suite, it asked me what was the phone i was using and it named the profile as P800, i was using P900 PC suite with a P800 phone.
however this time around i was no prompted at all. something is wrong.
i will uninstall everything SE and then install the PC suite alone

Try removing any spyware in your computer. Run ad-aware and do a full scan. I had the same problem as yours, and once I ran Ad-aware, deleted every problem, it all went fine.

no, the prolem still exists, i uninstalled all SE software and reinstalled it. when i plugged in the cable it said that it had detected the syncstation, but i still get the same options when i click on the phone connection link.
when i click on the synchronise or sync station settings in the menu i get the following popup message
"No phones identified
No phoen has been identified by Sony Ericsson Phone Connection Monitor. Please connect and define your phone first.
OK
"
i rememebr doing this when i used to sync with my P800, but even this time when i installed the software i was not prompted what phone and what is the name of my phone going to be.
the software version i am using is 2.3.0

Under other devices
the USB Serial Port has a yellow question mak and a red cross on it
when i checked the properties of the USB Serial Port Propeerties
i get the message
USB Serial Port
Device Type Other Devices
Manufacturer Unknown
Location on SEMC DSS-20 SyncStation
Device Status
this device is disabled (Code 22)
Click Enable Device to enable this device
Enable Device
Device USage
Do not use this device(disable)
i enabled it and i get the message
Device Type : other devices
Manufacturer: Unknown
Location: on SEMC DSS-20 SyncStation
"This device is not configured correctly (code 1)
To reinstall the drivers for ths device, click reinstall driver"
funnily elsewhere in the USB controllers i see the entry (what is the difference between the USB mentioned in the other devices and the USB mentioned in the main USB dropdown list)
SEMC DSS-20 SyncStation
and i get
Device type : Universal Serial Bus controllers
Manufacturer Sony Ericsson
Location Location 0 (SEMC DSS SyncStation
funny thing is that the USB works fine anything else. so i think USB is fine on this PC now( or perhaps i should do some exhaustive testing of USB?)

Hi I had the same problem last weekend, uninstall all of the se software, pull the internet connection out your pc,disable all your firewalls, and also disable your antivirus.uninstall any other phone sync software. Then install the latest version of se pc suite,(downloaded from their website,Not the cd rom supplied???!!!).Oh if you have spyware programs disable these as well before installing se.Follow the correct process and this should work.I had the same as you and ended up even doing a master reboot, with the system restore discs.

hello. i also have the same problem. that is why i was referred to join esato...
but the solution to my problem was quite simple... i just tried adding a new hardware.... i chose from the list of hardware connected to my computer, i chose the data cable of my phone. then it replied HARDWARE WORKING PROPERLY. afterwards i was connected.
btw, i was using a P800. after a year, my pc had problems detecting my P800... then i did what i have stated above. and it worked. after two more months i bought S700i, same problem, pc cant detect using the P800 cable. and the same solution work.
