Just an update.

Last night I used DaVinci to try and update my phone (thanks go out to vee for being extremely helpful and talking me through the process)

Unfortunately I bricked my phone because the flash process would keep losing the connection with the phone. This morning I had a chat with a DaVinci staff member, and based on his advice, tried the flash on my other computer which has XP with SP1 (the computer I was trying to flash from before was XP SP2)

Long story short, I managed to recover my phone, and it's now up to R2AE (EU3) - for those wondering, it has 999 in the SOS numbers. I chose EU3 because FMA stated that my previous Orange UK branded R2L was using EU3.

The menu has quite a different layout of icons than the Orange firmware, but I'm sure I'll get used to it quite quickly. The flash upgrade managed to fix my corrupted startup/shutdown image problem and also now allows me to mute the camera shutter sound by putting the phone into silent mode.

The only one remaining issue I have is the unlock. The unlock process (which I did yesterday before the failed flashing attempts) seemed to go smoothly. However, the people I was chatting with on ICQ throughout the process were quite surprised that my service menu (on the Orange branded firmware) did not have a "Sim Lock" option to display the lock/unlock status.

Now that I have upgraded sucessfully to R2AE, I still don't have the "Sim Lock" item in the service menu.

Does anyone know if I need to perform the DaVinci unlock procedure with any of the advanced options in order to get the service menu item to show up? (I currently don't have any non-Orange SIMs to try with the phone)

Another minor point: for some reason, the software info doesn't show a CDA number anymore! All it says under "customization" is: cxc125822 R2AE033 EU_3
