@JoolsG4
Hey! A genuine Mac-man! We should have you stuffed!!
(And i mean that in a positive sense )
Do you know of a method to make an image (like Symantec Ghost) with all applications ready installed and distibute it to the 25 iMacīs we have at work? That would be quite a relief, as now it takes the better part of a day vs. 15 minutes to Ghost 25 PCīs..
I wish i had the time to explore Apple/Mac more.. but alas, Windows takes 90% of the time at work, and my BSD-servers take the rest..

If all the Macs are identical, in hardware, then sure you can do that.

It's easiest if you have an external hard disk that can be moved from one Mac to the next.

Install Mac OS X on the first Mac, and set it up exactly as you want, (install apps etc.), then use a program called Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the hard disk to a disk image. Copy this disk image to the external hard disk. Install OS X (just a minimum install will do) on the external hard disk. Then boot each Mac in turn from the external hard disk and reverse the cloning process onto each Mac.

It's not so feasible if all the Macs are different because a Mac OS X install, installs different support or different CPU's, graphics cards and other hardware, which isn't directly transferrable from one Mac to another.

Apple do a bit of software especially for managing installs for a whole group of Macs. You can install all Macs over a network from one main Mac, and even boot them over a network...

@JoolsG4 Thanks for that I got it working, I had to use my Ipod as the firewire drive and install it there. I tested it out for a little while but because I know the damage that can be cause running an OS from an ipod, I will stop for now and backup all my stuff first and do a clean install.

Are you currently using it?? I noticed the limited factor of not using https on a few sites with safari, but that seemed to be resolved by switching to Firefox. I cant see much of a overhaul as many forums posted, but I will delve into it deeper and check it out later.

I'm not using it, just following its progress keenly!

I'd be very interested to hear about the new iSync capabilities... I've read they've rolled it more into the OS, rather than a seperate app. I'd like to know if it syncs address details and caller ID photos on the K700 if you have one to try!!
