This might sound a bit stupid, but just to rule it out; When you first wiped off the screen, you could have bumped in to locking the screen. Try oressing the battery indicator in the bottom right hand corner...

and unfortunatly i tried updating it (which worked). so know i can't even get to the menu's because it's still stuck on the setup wizard!!!!

i would imagine finding parts would be cheaper, but why not try ringing the centre and get some sort of idea of what they might charge. a cpw brochure has the phone numbers on the back page.
