Just stop bu**ering about with it and take it back, stand in the shop and tell them you want it replaced and the service you are receiving is appalling and if they wont do something for you you'll go to trading standards. The phone is FAULTY!! You are entitled to a refund or replacement. Dont stand for a repair or sending it away, GET A NEW ONE!!!

Stop shouting at him he got it from O2 online. They trade as a different company, therefore the highstreet shop is not obliged to replace the handset for him.
O2 online are notoriously bad for swaps in that they hardly ever do them. If they do they open up another account for you then you have to mess about closing it and getting money back and it's all very messy.
I'd send it back and deal with it for a week. It's annoying but you're in their hands. When you get it back flash the thing and get rid of the O2 crap.

If the update service is failing at 51% then it's probably defective memory in the handset.
Send it off to O2 and get them to replace it. They won't be able to repair it if it has a faulty memory chip without replacing the mainboard in the device.
Get yourself a new one and just hope it's not a crappy refurb job.. you should get a brand new one.
Hope this helps,

A worrying thing just happened, my p910 (third one!) just turned itself off and told me it was to improve performance. But its fine now. Anyone know why it did that? REALLY dont want to take it back again, its the third one I've had since early december!!

Oh yeah, i tried taking it at he o2 shop as well, to save time, but they wont change it, i need to send it back.
U mean all your previous phones did the same problem, "restarted in order to improve performance"?

No, others had screen freezing problems. Then after lot of hassle got them to change it again to the third one. Its restarted etc "to improve" performance couple of times. Updated the software from SE site few days ago and it seems to be fine now!! Wasnt that bad as once it had restarted it was fine, just wasnt sure when it would do it. Few times it had been in my oocket and done it so I dont know if I had missed calls etc. Was hassle more than anything. Hope yours comes back soon!

I shouldn't worry about it too much, but obviously if it's doing it all the time then there's something wrong, because it shouldn't.
It'll only 'restart to improve performance' when it
really needs to. Mine does it from time to time, but never when it's in my pocket.
It seems to me that it does it when you have a lot of applications running and it starts running out of memory, then it will restart in an attempt to free up memory. We all know what happens to computers when they get critically low on disk space, so you can understand why your phone is trying to free up space for you.
Just make sure you aren't trying to do too much with the phone, and get a program like SMan to clear the memory now and then, and close unwanted applications.
Hope this helps.

Am running sman, first time I've had a phone like this so still figuring it all out. Oddly though since I updated from the SE site it hasnt done it, and I have very little in the way of applications running or pics etc taking up memory! Maybe I'm just jinxed with these things! Never had this with my T28!LOL!
