I dont mind admitting that I have not used the D500. It does seem very well specced, especially for its size. The only thing that I dont like about it it that it doesnt have external memory support, but the large internal memory does help to make up for that deficiency.

GPRS seems to be slightly quicker than my S700 and P900 even though it still uses the Openwave type browser.
Memory is shared. You have a memory option to view how much memory each feature (MMS, Photos etc) is using and how much is allowed.

I'm pretty frequent at a certain samsung forum coz i used a samsung earlier. Here are its issues...none of the d500 users can figure out how to put spaces between text,one trick is to put + between text but its not convenient. Another MAJOR issue is related to its mp3 playback...apparently it doesnt support 99% of the mp3 available on wap for free download so is pretty limited there.Also i dont think samsung has expandable t9. It seems samsung's best yet tho coz finally it has functional bluetooth,irda and nice java implementation. Compared to the s700 its nothin really but can be a decent upgrade from the k700 tho i wouldnt advise it coz it doesnt make sense to have a phone with mp cam but fixed memory...also you'll find samsung's software support is very limited. Also does it have themes? Dont think so.

No it didn't appear to be on the one I had. You can't create storage folders either like you can with the SE phones

Also, the D500 cannot multitask. You can do only one thing at a time. Eg. You cannot browse the picture folders while playing Mp3.

What i asked was , some earlier samsungs like x100,x600 etc had 9mb TOTAL memory , for java 600kb of 9mb , for pics 6mb of 9etc , you cannot put 9mb full of java apps , whereas in se's say k500 , we can put all the 12mb with java apps or whatever you like. Is d500 memory shared like the old ones ?

The D500 is a fine phoen for those who have never "gotten used to" a Sony Ericsson.
Its IrDA and Bluetooth is actually very good, and the fatures on paper are good. Its camera is great for point and clik stuff.
But where it utlimately falls down is in the details. Its just missing the odd thign here and there that we have all gotten used to. For example, its hard to add words to T9, the autosorting of candidate words, the ability to scroll through candidates. Difficult to simply save a number in a text message. Lack of decent manual controls on the cam (this is where the S700 REALLY rocks)..
You wil.l probably end up being really annoyed with it, after the glitz of the phone wears of, if you are fcoming from SonyEricsson.
But for someone like my dad, its really nice.
