@djkizlive. i have a set of sony mdr-ex71sl earbuds they have excellent sound quality and the way they fit they stop most ambient noise also.
they have a short lead on them for plugging into a mini disc controller so the best option for me would be to keep them this way. so an alternative to your offer would be to put a female 3.5mm jack on the p9xx headphone lead & a male jack on the p9xx headphones.
i have tried soldering headphones before but i kept getting distortion through them, im not a newbie to soldering either.

The distortion you'r encountering is probably due to a lack of power from the Pxxx device. Did you try it at a lower volume to see if there is any distortion?

Seeing as though the SE earbuds work fine, i don't see any reason why other earbuds distort unless they have a higher power requirement.
