how can you say that! there is a lot of symbian phones made by other manufacturers. One of the best is the Pxxx by SE, 3G UIQ phones by Moto, X1 by Siemens, and how about those made by BenQ and Arima.

@dj_wolfinstein: You do sound a little biased against Symbian, suggesting you've had a bad experience with the platform, maybe on a Nokia. Want to share it? I have found Symbian to deliver the goods virtually all the time. UIQ as used on SE phones ismy favourite. This message was posted from a P800

1st off Symbian is a nature os more nature than microsofts mobile iterations, and just as powerful. Epoc is its roots, and was on the Ericsson R380? The gui all different cause not all phones have keyboards. This message was posted from a Z600

well..Firstly what I meant is that Symbian is owned in majority of shares by Nokia Communication corporation..So some exlclusive Symbian upgrades and softwares are particulary designed for Nokia Pro Phones...Although I don't have proof to prove this to you..But i remember reading the Economic Times around a year back..and it stated that Symbian was bought out by Nokia..Nokia bought Shares of Ericsson and some other cell maker..So Nokias control increased...in the company and so did there Nokia Centric desgin..I would suggest if anyone wants to read more they could google to the article if it was online..Else I will try to find a link If I do get to it...

Secondly, I think Symbian OS is Great...Jst that its prone to Virus attacks such as "Kabir"....Not had much expierence neither much of a problem..But I would go for Microsoft's Os supplied with O2 XDA any day compared with Symbian...

regards

If you look at this chart, you will realise Nokia is the largest share holder. But they have no majority control. They could have if they bought Psions share sold one year a go. But the other owners did not allow it.

http://www.symbian.com/about/ownership.html

Further more, the owners do not manage Symbian and hence Symbian operates independently of their owners.

So your statements are not correct.
