That's funny... my P900 syncs flawlessly with MS Outlook 2003.
Must be a configuration issue on your computer to be honest.
I have a P900 and an SPV C500 connected to the same PC, (both different operating systems, both syncing with Outlook), and they both sync perfectly fine. All the data from the P900 is entered into Outlook, all the data from Outlook is then transferred to the C500. I have no problems with this at all.
I've not tried syncing my new P910 yet, but soon enough i will. I can't imagine it being any different?

Well SE support in US here stinks. Don't expect anything from it. I had my bad experience, too. I am not even trying to synch. However, I prefer the P900 any day over a Treo. Those tiny buttons are... tiny and the screen is only mediocre.

I can't avoid synching. Its the only way I get to combine the appointments and to do's my PA has added in Outlook to those I have added in the phone. I have spoken to other owners and they are all in a similar position to me and I've noted stuff here about the inability to sync and inability to deal with repeat events etc. So I don't think its me or my PC setup which is a pretty standard WinXP SP1 and Outlook 2002 SP3

@macgyver
Read this post before you go over to Treo 650

Problems regarding the NVFS filesystem which uses 512byte large blocks. Which is a lot for the ROM. But it also looks like they will try to fix this with an update.
I would go for the Treo 650. =)

If i were to buy a phone i would go for the BenQ P50. First of all it has all the features of the Treo 650 which you are considering but with something more like wifi and larger screen. Google it and you'll find plenty of info.

Given that the main issue seems to be the BMW carkit here, why not ask BMW which phones are FULLY compatible with their carkit?
Makes you wonder if car makers actually bother to talk with phone manufacturers or just follow some spec sheet.

Isn't it something to do with the phone needing a 'handsfree' bluetooth profile, which is slightly different from a 'headset' profile.
If this is the case, then I don't think it's BMW's fault, but the phone makers' for not including this profile as standard.
