I was the one who raised the issue on the ugly keypad on the P800 (and the other new SE models), I will still buy it, and will use it without the keypad.
SDKs are expensive, but the Symbian OS accepts apps developed in Java and C++... so there will be people who can make free apps and games, just like when Epoc was still alive.
The P800 screensavers will only be animated GIFs. Although, it can play MPEG4 movies. Whether the OS allows MPEG4 to be used as a screensaver, that's up to Symbian.
I was wondering however, if the OS7 UIQ can support a landscape mode on the P800, like on the R380. Just a thought, would be nice to have the option to rotate the screen. Not essential, but would just be nice to have.
A built-in fax program that could send and receive would be useful too. Hopefully, the Word & Excel function won't be limited to just viewing... I hope editors will be available too.
Since the OS is by Symbian, SDKs can come from SE or Symbian... I think the SE SDK is for serious corporate parnters... free apps, and games can be made using Java, C++ or a Symbian SDK.
I'm so glad the P800 has a Mem Stick!

There's a company developing an app to record MPEG4 videos on the Nokia 7650 (What can you record with 4MB???)... hopefully we will see this on the P800 soon... it WOULD be cool to have a video AND still cam on the P800... and with the memstick, it actually makes it useful! Maybe they can call it the P800 Handycam??? hehehehe

Really? Will you be holding a phone in one hand and the pen in the other every time you want to answer/make a phone call or read an SMS?
Or will you be touching the screen with your fingers and than cleaning it every night?

If you want to write apps in C++ you NEED the SDK! And Java? It is slow, can't use camera, sound, bluetooth, phonebook data, PIM data etc. It pretty much useless for anything more serious than a tetris game. You can even run Java apps on a Nokia 3410, and that's a lot cheaper than a P800.

You plan to edit Word & Excel files on yout phone?!? What on earth for?

Trust me, there will be no free useful apps for the P800 unless SE changes something...

I would be more glad if it had a SD/MMC slot... You do realize that you will only have 16MB MS Duo's for quite a while (remember, this is MS Duo, not MS)?

Oh oh! I was really looking forward to the p800, but if what faca tells is true I must rethink what my next phone will be. You know, for me additional software is very important. So maybe I'll have to buy the 7650 even if I like the p800 much more. As I already said 3rd party SW is very important and if it is really true what faca says them there will be tons of applications on the 7650. But I still hope the SDK for the p800 will be free or at least very cheap. 3rd party SW will make or break the p800!!!

But anyway, I see your point that SE is charging so much for its SDK while Nokia and Siemens are giving theirs away for free.
But I don't agree that there will be a shortage of software releases to P800. Let's not forget the two great companies behind this phone, Sony and Ericsson! Both companies host talent programmers and designers and there will certainly be a lot of free and wonderful stuff released officially by both companies under the name of

Have anybody seen any apps that works with p800?
Youīll get plenty of apps with the p800-cd in the box also, so i donīt think there is any reason to worry to much about it.
Maby someone can post the link to the P800 "manual" for me? (the one thet is 90 pages and in pdf)

And then it suddenly struck me, why oh why (didnīt I take the blue pill
) didnīt they make the design like one concept phone from se a saw...
Iīll just go now and get a picture of it so you understand what Iīm talking about....
