I've just built a fresh machine with a clean WinXP install and TMS runs OK. However, I'm seeing exactly the same problems as described in my first post.

I tried "pressing the power button quickly", but that made no difference - either the phone turns itself on without my intervention, or turns on when I tap the power button and says "insert SIM".

I also tried getting a connection with a T610 and it's doing exactly the same thing, so I'm suspecting a duff cable. I'm going to get hold of a multimeter later on to test the pin connections.

Check your cable with Setool for free:

Ok so we want to check your cable/comport

Download setool comport client

Extract files, open setool gui

Delete all username, password and server info, all boxes should be empty. Now select a comport you think is correct one.

Set speed to 115200

make sure "read usercode" small box it ticked (nothing else) press unlock repair.

The log should display your phone code deafault is 0000

If this works you have good cable and correct com

IMPORTANT
make sure there is no username/password/server info

Hi!

so where is the best place to buy the cable? Are there more than one manufacturer? Final question, what is the code number for the cable?

I think correctly it is called ' T28 service cable '

Thanks,

Ofiaich

Thanks for your help gbrooks3. Unfortunately, I get exactly the same behaviour (looping reboot) and the log says "Unknown phone connected, phone can't boot, sorry".

I'm pretty sure the cable is dodgy. I'll wait until I get hold of a multimeter before I email FaceOffMobiles.

Seems like your cable is faulty. Did you drivers come with the cable?

No drivers came with the cable, and I've never seen a mention of drivers for a serial cable.

hmm a serial cable...
I think you still need drivers...not too sure. However i still think your cable is faulty. You should return it and get one from the link posted by gbrooks above.
