Many thanks to the valuable information shared by Crackerjack and Psikey.
It surely helps me/us zero in on better alternatives.

yeah.... i tried using the AAC converter through db power AMP. I converted Mp3 to AAC file size inreased by 30%.
at OGG 64kbps 44100 hz stero sound the quality os average as compared to 128 MP3. i heard the convered file ont he phone itself.
Then why not convert the original file to MP3 (lame)though DBpower converted or cheetahaudio converter to 64kpbs. It is the almost the same thing....

Although i rarely convert my music to any other format if however i decide to convert i convert them i MP3 PRO format with Musicmatch Jukebox. Oggs need more processing power rather than mp3 pro.

I use
dbpoweramp to convert my music into the OGG file format.
I use 64k 32Khz settings, and i convert from 192k MP3's. The result is absolutely AMAZING. The quality is comparable to a 128k MP3 file, and the average filesize is around 1.5MB for a 4 minute song.
I have 68 x 128k equivalent quality OGG files on my 128MB stick.
I use UnrealPlayer to play these, i find it to be a lot better than OggPlayer.
I also use the SE Handsfree kit to listen to music. I cannot complain about the quality at all.

Is there any other player specifically a freeware that can play Ogg files?

Thought I'd resurrect this thread rather than start another one! I actually

for once!
So, is a 128kbps AAC file of a better quality than a 128kbps MP3 file, and is of a smaller file?
I've just converted a load of songs off CD albums I have into the AAC format (that's encapsulated in one of those MPEG files), the only problem is, I've nothing to play them on except my PC! Will my P900 play these files, or will it need an extra application installing? I don't really want to convert the files to another format, as I'm hoping to get an Ipod Shuffle once I get a bit of money, and the waiting list for them is slightly less ridiculous and hopefully the price will then drop a bit!

To Sammy : with the same bit rate mp4 (aac) and mp3 will have same size. However you can lower the bit rate in mp4 file- mp4 have same quality with higher bitrate mp3 file. Eq: 64 kbps has the same quality (slightly better) with 128 kbps mp3.

Are you sure about that? I heard that mp4 is nothing special, so I never used it anyway. I know this may sound stupid put 64k seems too little to me.
