Airtel GPRS in Kerala connects at whopping 115kbps! ( but downlaod speed i saroubd 20's or so). My frnd has online via K700i for over 87hrs till date , in less than a month!. Not bad when u calculate. Rs 250 per month!

I took an Airtel connection, and now my frnd's main time pass is calling up 121( airtel customer service) and shouting at them coz they havent yet activated my 'Mobile Office GPRS' connection .

Anyone here using Airtel Kerala? I would like 2 know, in how many days u got it activated!

and oh, my bro uses a shhh!(nokia 6230) and says TN Airtel is damn fast. I bet it is when I saw his GRPS counter. He had downloaded only 167MB worth of files. All free downloads, even while roaming!

cheers

erm....I use Hutch GPRS here in Navi Mumbai for 99 Rspm unlimited downloads and its pretty fast even on my Motorola c350. I can open a page of esato in maximum 20 seconds (wml version) ans usually 10 seconds, even at prime time at nights.

My friend uses Airtel GPRS on the same model as mine and gets pissed off at the appaling speeds ! Its a question of what phone you have and more importantly the density of towers and gprs active users in your area.

Obviously more users but less tower density = slow speeds.

but more users + more towr density like in my area = still good speeds

I am using Airtel mobile office GPRS (Edge??) connection on Palm Treo 650 which supports edge connections. The max speed I am getting is 43KBPS and when I call the customer support, they confirmed that its the max speed allowed and the technical people are working to increase the speeds. I belived that they intentionally kept the upper limit to 43kbps. The speeds are comparable to dial-up, but no way close to the DSL connections. So if you are using dial-up now and have a edge phone, then may be its a good deal. But mobility is not a concern, may be 64kbps or 128 kbps unlimited DSL access on landline from Airtel a better option for browsing net.

im currently subscribed to the basic gprs and i think (dont remember) i pay about 99 pm....but i tihink its reduced to 50 bucks pm now.... speeds are decent...but while im downloading tones n games n stuff the connection breaks a lot...and i gotta restart the download...which sucks big time
