No screen flicker, better contrast ratio, faster response times, etc however this all varies depending on the model you choose. hope this helps

Hmmm.... i gotta admit this. I hate the BIG back of the CRT! But it seems to be winning the race! @mince, I'll try ringing up plasma. ;-)

quality of image:
CRT > LCD
Space Saving
CRT
To be honest I don't like LCD's, yes i'm a gamer but foremost I also like a clean crisp image. Refresh rates aren't just important to gaming, for any long term work using a screen a higher refresh rate will ease eye strain. (Some people get VERY irritated by 60hz, my mutant self, I don't have a problem with it

)
If space is the primary concern and you may only be using it for short terms then an LCD isn't a bad choice at all. Go for a decent quality one and definately check for any dead pixles before you leave the store.
If space isn't a worrying factor, to be honest nothing beats a trusty CRT. (imo)

Are you serious? Go for ANYTHING under 16ms (or even 16ms, Mine is!!) and you'll be fine for games and movies. The monitor strains my eyes less, and is MUCH clearer in its native resolution (1280*1024).

Well i'll suggest you get yourself a crt display coz tho they are less bright, their contrast ratio is much higher so detailed images will look better on a crt. Apart from that their color purity is much better than lcd displays as well, adding here that one of your primary function for the display is web browsing and most sites have colors optimised for crt displays so that'll be easier for you. Much more responsive so wont dissapoint you during the times you put your gaming skills to test. And also crt displays support a multitude of resolutions. Another thing is that your new crt display wont have any dead pixels. The gama tuning is equivalent to photo quality in crts which is one more advantage. Btw as stated by masseur earlier a 17" crt is actualy equivalent to approx 15.8" while a 15" lcd will provide you full viewin area. Some factors which go in favour of lcd displays are power consuption, easy on your eyes, space saving and soooo sleek, not affected by magnetic fields so you have no probability of conflicts due to nearby devices, no flickering, perfect geometry but this wont concern you unless of course if you're into serious graphic designing. In conclusion i'll advise you to buy a good quality crt(samsung and lg ones are very good n cost effective as well) since the lower priced lcd displays are even worse, either buy a expensive lcd or dont bother with it.

*Sigh* Looks like this battle is won, but I still think you'll regret getting a CRT...

@whiz - also consider the fact that a LCD monitor here in India costs at least 15K more than a CRT. With that money u can probably go for an even better PC configuration.

lcd's which can produce comparable perfomance with crt costs really high in india. so for now ,crt, say 17" or 19", is the best option imo.

Advantages of CRT:
Cheaper, Better and crisp images, Better color reproduction, viewable at a wide angle, more likely to last longer.
Advantages of LCD:
Smaller and lighter, Less power consumption, Stylish.
Personally I'd go for CRT because I prefer to work with a large screen with accurate color and image reproduction. It's very seldom that it gets moved anyway so size and weight doesn't matter too much. BTW, cheap LCD quality is really unbearable ugly - the contrast/brightness controls are very limited, pixels are not sharp, the colors are mostly very inacurate. If you decide to go for LCD anyway go for the hi-end Sony or Samsung LCDs.
