It means u can only upgrade if they release a new version of Voda branded f/w.
The Networks like to remind u which Network you're on! Annoying I know!

i know t-mobile dont usually bother updating but im not sure how voda are like coz many believe they provide the best service and hence their prices tend to be higher then others

No, it doesnt allow it.
I have R4 firmware and the latest one for voda is R5 but it says its not permitted.

vodafone sometimes develops different versions of firmware for different regions. remember they did so with K700 firmware. If that is the case here and the new R5 version doesn't maych your P900 specific 'firmware signature' it might still not work.
Best way to find out is give vodafone a call.

But, Ive heard that online update service doesnt work for branded phones.

I cannot comment on P models because i do not have one, but i do have a Vodafone branded phone which I have updated online only last week, it works like a charm so your problems are not
's fault for not providing updates.
Call vodafone, Ask them where to get the update. Ask them why it isn't onlne yet. Ask them when it will be online.

Vodafone told me they didnt even know that phones can be updated online. Pretty useless as I said in the other post. Most of these staff at call centres dont have a clue and its usually ppl higher up the organisation who know what they are talking about.
One guy from vodafone told me usually there is a charge for firmware upgrade even if its under warranty. Again, he was speaking rubbish.
Another guy told me take it to a service centre.
